Unfortunately that URL edit doesn't seem to work beyond page 1.
You can get around that with more involved url edit, but adjusting the price in there doesnt seem to survive any buttonclick indeedquite inconvenient.

Also, one of the genuinely laugh-out-loud columns I've read on PH. Double entendres about Mrs. Shed, etc. Thanks for the journalism -- and for not merely reporting the stat's.
The Mrs Shed stuff has put me off to be honest. Was better before when it was just about cars and not trying to do some bad knockoff of Carcoat Damphands. I know, I know I sound like one of those "It was better before <X change>!" types on the internet, but that's genuinely how I feel.Ditch the Mrs Shed crap and you'd have a better column IMO.
£1500 totally makes sense for the reasons you state Matt, and moreover:
- inflation/CPI rises, and the dropping pound, have made x amount of money buy less car for a UK buyer. People from abroad find it easier to buy decent bangers to export to Durkastan - a roaring trade in southern Africa for example.
- a buying/selling reality: the psychological difference between £1000 and £1500 is not as great as the 50% increase would imply. People think in halves and wholes as increments for some reason- the same reason maybe why stuff is more commonly priced at or just below those increments (£1495, £2.99, etc)
- £1500 may just buy a tiny bit more car than the £1000 did ten years back, but who cares. We are happy to be tempted onto slightly more supple leather, and slightly less rusty wheelarches.
- Shed is a victim of his and PH's success. A google search for any car-related questions, even from when I am abroad at another terminal, tends to throw up PH threads at or near the top. All the decent £1000 cars are bought instantly now, you barstewards!

£1,500 is the right figure - it has needed to be more than £1,000 for a year or two now in my view. There simply are not enough interesting cars at £1,000 to fill a weekly column, which is why my interest in SOTW has waned. I may start reading it again at the new limit.
This. My first thought when I read the headline was "F***ing finally!".Cheers,
Matt

Acknowledging that you can't find a sub-£1k car every week, I'd add another rule that you should opt for a sub-£1k car if it is available but if not, then post about a sub-£1.5k car.
Durrr ..... £1000 is LESS than £1500, ergo if a good Shed appears in the classifieds at sub £1000 it is still eligible. MarJay said:

Agree - the mrs shed crap just isnt funny...Ditch the Mrs Shed crap and you'd have a better column IMO.
It's like a bad joke being told by your history teacher
This thread is the perfect example of humankind and how different our likes and dislikes are.
I'm happy with sheds budget to change, after some thought, so long as it remains within the realm of 'I could drunkenly bid on eBay and pay this with a handful of cash and not be too mad if it detonated itself 12 months later' level. That amount has changed over the years, and for some that amount is higher or lower than others.
As for Mrs shed, it's a staple of the show. For shame to those who disagree, that's like watching bruce forsyth and not shouting his catchphrases back to him even though you're tired of it all

I've no problem with this, when did shed start? I'll assume 2000, which makes £1000 then equal to £1544 now. It'll open up the potential for more interesting/new/different cars. which means more/new discussion.
I recall the budget when SOTW started was £500? Someone correct me if I'm mistakenGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
