Oh! £1,500 is it?

Next you'll be recommending the Shiraz from friggin' Waitrose. It's like you think we're made of money!

£1,500 isn't a Shed - it's a Shiplap Timber Summerhouse!

I thought anyone who bought a shed just shopped at Aldi using Waitrose bags.

I recall the budget when SOTW started was £500? Someone correct me if I'm mistaken
It would be interesting to see SOTW budget plotted against both national inflation and national used car prices to compare how well they follow.

Is this recent budget change been primarily driven by devaluation of the pound, or change in the used car market?

I think Mrs Shed has been after a better column for a while.
I reckon she'd gladly chip in the £500 from her extra-curricular activities to subsidise a better column. Mr Shed scores an extra NCAP star as his is (frequently) collapsible.

".... as has the incredible rise in classic car values ....."

Well I wish some fucensoredker would tell the classic car market about pre-'93 Mercedes R129 500 SL's! I've had one for YEARS and the value has gone precisely nowhere! I'm sure it would still make the sub-£1000 bracket no problem! biggrin

Acknowledging that you can't find a sub-£1k car every week, I'd add another rule that you should opt for a sub-£1k car if it is available but if not, then post about a sub-£1.5k car.
Durrr ..... £1000 is LESS than £1500, ergo if a good Shed appears in the classifieds at sub £1000 it is still eligible. smile
Obviously. But if there are two sheds, one better at £1200 and one not so good at £800, the £800 should be picked first.

just had a quick look using the new 1500 quid limit.

2x Impreza turbo's, a VR6, a type R, an RX8 and an Alfa V6.

No doubt shed will select the Metro Clubman...

If you're selling an R 129 for less than a grand I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands

Anyone else want the Shed committee to negotiate their next payrise for them? A 50% increase in one hit is pretty good going.
I already asked and it's not going to happen! Screw the committee, look at your own investment options.

It's high time. Interesting sheds at £1000 are less are plainly drying up so I hope this injects a bit of life into shed.

BTW, I thought the V6 diesel Vectra was okay!

A few BMW minis drop into the sun £1500. A fair few coopers and ones, occasionally the odd leggy S.

Leon Cupra, CTR, 330i, Clio 172, Panda 100hp, Bora V5, Golf VR6 all come under budget, but this Saab 9-3 would do it for me

Also, one of the genuinely laugh-out-loud columns I've read on PH. Double entendres about Mrs. Shed, etc. Thanks for the journalism -- and for not merely reporting the stat's.
The Mrs Shed stuff has put me off to be honest. Was better before when it was just about cars and not trying to do some bad knockoff of Carcoat Damphands. I know, I know I sound like one of those "It was better before <X change>!" types on the internet, but that's genuinely how I feel.

Ditch the Mrs Shed crap and you'd have a better column IMO.
Sorry MarJay, I'm with unsprung on this - the sense of humour is really rather entertaining and it's not like it's the main focus of any of the articles either. If all you want is to be informed, rather than entertained, there are plenty of far more worthy (re: boring) websites out there already to cater to your tastes.
I think the Mrs Shed stuff is a bit marmite. I personally don't find it funny and tend to skip straight to the bit about the car.

Glad to see the budget has been upped - looking forward to seeing some more interesting cars. biggrin

£2k limit would be OK IMO.
It still can be £1k priced.
I always find that talk of dropping Mrs Shed will makes things very hard for the column.

i see the validity of a £500 limit for bangers as ive seen some decent even late plate motors with long MOTs go for less than that but i think the point SOTW makes is that upping the limit to 1500 will be better for readers and the writers due to having more choice. Sub £500 is gong to be a struggle for a weekly feature without repetition and so readers will quickly get frustrated by that.

1500 limit=good move.
