Dubscene....?
I think the whole "scene" (dub or otherwise) owes a lot to the BTTC, because "racecar" etc etc

My Dad took me to see the Toca Shootout when I was very young to see Mansell when he held both his F1 and Indy championships (I think). A really cold day. I was opposite when Tiff smashed him into the wall.

I was on the otherside of the bridge when tiff knocked him off.
We were sat near the spitfire on the pole. When they got the blankets out to hide what was going on we wondered if he was dead
I was stood at the top of the hill. As it took an extremely long time to remove him from the car, there were some unfavourable jokes being exchanged regarding the car's upholstery, static and Nigel's moustache.

2015 Yuasa Honda.

Ok so it's not iconic like the Volvo 850 nor does it have an RS Ford's ability to provide 'fk yeah' for the intellectually superior European market wink

What this car does have however is the ability to turn in to a corner that leaves my jaw on the floor in a kinda... how?????

You know that 'nope' thing a fwd car does when you enter a corner too hard and the front end's doing what momentum wants it to do rather than what the steering wheel is asking it to do? This Honda doesn't appear to suffer from such insubordinance, even when compared to the best BMW, Merc, etc have to offer. Would love to drive this car if only to redefine my knowledge of how late and hard you can turn in to a corner.

To see this car at it's full I would love to link a video but apparently BTCC/ITV are still in the stone age so here's an ITV link that if you dig through you may find the Oct 2015 final (race 30/30). You may need to switch your add blocker off for the page to work correctly, not because ITV are trying to diddle you as there no adverts on the page, the code is just that old: http://www.itv.com/btcc/races/watch-all-the-action....

The Yuasa Honda is a good shout. I was looking at pictures earlier. The old FN2 shape was a great looking touring car and the next generation model was even more imposing to look at. Definitely the best looking car on the current field.

One from Down Under. Bit before I got into V8 Supercars, which have some classics from each generation, but love seeing the Big Banger and its ilk at historic events.

Never raced in the BTCC But one of the team cars did race in thundersaloons.

If you want to be pedantic, the BTCC didn't start until 1987.

The BTCC holds no interest for me nowadays, as it's too much like banger racing in cars which only have the slightest of links to their showroom counterparts, but this thread has evoked fond memories of the days when the fans could - and did - readily identify with the drivers and their cars.
I'm in the same mindset as you, I haven't watched the BTCC in years, from when they shifted away from saloons into hatchbacks and the like, weird spoilers and stuff, it all got a bit removed from where it started. Back in the day it used to be BTCC for me as a main, DTM as the crazy tech counterpart, shame thats all lost now.

Aussie V8s seem to appeal to me more now

Mid 90s Laguna. Because my dad had one.
Interesting fact.

Jason Plato was desperate for a drive, so drove to the Williams factory and "managed" to speak to Frank Williams. He asked him for a drive, or at least help in getting a drive. Williams spoke to Renault, Jason ended up in one of them. And the rest is history.

Although from the odd time I've seen the BTCC recently, I know he's with Subaru now and every time I see him he doesn't look happy. Looks like a guy who's wondering what the frig he's doing with himself.

I think it's because Sutton has jumped in the car and made Plato look ordinary.

Primera BTCC. They were the best at the peak of the supertouring era.

Even though they never seemed to win anything, I loved these too. Perhaps it was because I was a kid and my dad had a 406. Not to mention that livery; has there ever been a colour scheme like it?

Out of the current crop I think the Works BMWs look the best - I also believe they're the only 3dr car in the field?

I really liked the 2001 BTCC Peugeot 406 Coupe's in that dayglo yellow too -
