Oh and I forgot we got money in the bank because we dont have finance on cars we cant afford
?? Bit judgemental. What's all this "because" business these days, I see it being used quite alot and not sure where it comes from (goodness I sound old!).

I do prefer the looks of the estate / touring versions of many cars, including the 335i. I set out to find one, but simply couldn't find one.

I think it was satire because of all of the 'financing' threads these days.

Most people on this site dont have any money but they talk like they do . Yes some people post pictures of their cars and are able to back up what they are saying but they are rare and it reflects the amount of expensive cars ratio to normal cars on the road.

The financing of cars in this country is a complete joke . People who cant afford to buy a car are getting cars they cant afford .This site is the worst site on the internet for encouraging this .
A lot of young new petrolheads joining this site buy into the fact that you must have an expensive car or your not a proper car person .So instead of running a car they can afford after a couple of months of reading about fast cars and easy finace on this site they then go and put the financial rope around their neck .

Some people on this site are very rich others on the this site are older and wiser and have seen a bit of the world . Many of the others are easily influence by advertising and social pressure to have something they really cant afford
We all noticed this week even SHED is getting above his station .He can only afford 1K but is now spending £1500 £500 of whitch he does not have ( This reflects this site )

People enjoy threads like this estate car thread because these people are the real petrolheads ,The real motoring people

Two bikes in the boot (one of them would go in the boot a fiesta). One wheel off. Rear seat still in use.

Why do I have so many pictures of stuff in the back of my car?

This is mine. I decided in an estate for all the outdoorsy stuff that me and the GF do. Although my commute is only 3 miles each way we cover roughly 20k a year just travelling around to climb different mountains all over the UK. I aslo happen to think that that modern estates look much nicer than saloon models.

At first I wanted a Jaguar XF-S (3.0 diesel) estate but GF only passed her test in November 2016 so insurance wouldn't touch it without fitting a box. Then saw this C220 cdi and it only had 38k on it and was very well specced for the price. Absolutely love it and will probably keep it for a good few years. Would love a C63 estate but fuel bills and lack of fuel stations in some of the places I end up in makes it prohibitive.

I've just put a deposit down on my first estate, very excited to pick it up, and will post some pictures when I have it.

To help stop the argument for and against finance, I refuse to say whether I purchased it outright or not, all I will say is I reviewed my finances and concluded it was within my budget.

Very nice G3org3y, an E36 touring is a fine looking car, and can't remember the last time I saw a 328 one

Love an old estate myself, especially when it can get a bit of a shift on with the boot full of clobber

In a way I agree with the sentiment about people are getting into large amounts of debt to get depreciating assets simply because they're newer than the neighbours.
However leasing of PCP is so cheap just now it's often the most sensible way to buy a newish car. I also don't know or care if these people can afford them or not.

Having said that I got out of the PCP loop a couple of years ago and bought a 10 year old BMW 645 with the deposit I got back, I love the old BMW and do enjoy the lack of monthly payments and knowing it's mine (provided it's been good that month).

My other car is a Subaru Legacy estate as I needed something practical that would work in winter. It'll be going soon (my knee isn't working properly) to be replaced by a 4x4. The room in the estate is about right but I miss the height of the 4x4 for loading it with stuff.

Anyway here's the Subaru doing the winter bit

Sold now but I still miss her every time something larger than a hold-all needs moving:

Financed by the way, unsurprisingly I didn't have £55k floating around aged 27. Surely a real petrolhead enjoys seeing nice cars out in the wild regardless of how they're acquired?

People buy what they want they make a choice.

Some people value you only live once
Some people can easily afford it.
Some people have worked out the all up costs of running an old car and vs a very cheap lease deal they are better off or at zero risk plus a new car.
Some people lie

But end of the day why does it matter to you at all? You cannot force people to adhere to your way of life.

Personally do I like he fact that now plenty (apparently) young kids are running Golf R's etc whereas I and all who I knew had to run clapped out she'd for years Nova 1ltr Maestros allegros all fking st cars (but as it happens very fond memories) vs the lovely machines we have today.

Take a chill pill life's too short to get angry especially at total strangers who you'll never meet in real life online - bizzare.

That bugs me, my wife's cousin is early 20s and zooming about in a new Audi A3 saloon. He knows nothing about cars and will never need to learn.

I had any amount of crap cars, these people will never know the highs and lows of owning something you have to park on hills so you can bump start it in the morning.
Or that great moment when you discover the problem you thought was expensive and possibly terminal turns out to be a loose wire and the car works again.
Or servicing something that's obviously not been done in years so you get a 30% power boost in one day because all the filters now flow.

Obviously this is outweighed by then driving things that are loads safer, likely to get them home without calamity and far nicer to live with generally.

In fact i'm mostly just jealous that they're younger than me and also don't have crap cars.

It's not 50%. It's 46.7% which means I get more value out of my existing words on finance threads elsewhere, making borrowing the wordsworth it.
If it were 50% or more it would not be worth having the finance thread here, and I would therefore use the finance words that I have in the bank and own the thread outright.
