Why have you written Shirley ?hyphen said:
Saloons will be quieter than estates you would think? So less road noise if you are doing higher mileage. Plus image.
Interesting you say that one of my pals looking to upgrade his saloon and said the exact thing when I suggest and estate.More road noise - no, not in a Mercedes or Bmw estate vs saloon noise is the same.
Image - subjective for everyone but to me a saloon = company car where buyer had no choice and forced to take a 4 door, or an old mans car (used to be Rover drivers!)
Then he said longer for parking / often they are the same dimensions.
As for ‘because estate car’ that must have been invented by a teenage moron who was allowed to borrow his parents estate at the weekend!

Don't get me wrong I'm not averse to them and I would have one - although I've not owned one yet - and I'm not here trolling on an estate thread!

Our first estate car (after a dreadful ownership 'experience' with a L320 Range Rover Sport ).
It is a 2010 C350 model - comfortable, quiet and a very pleasant place to sit on long trips - the recent addition of a roof box will help with all the stuff we take (off to Spain in a couple of weeks (1,300 miles)).
It is the first estate I have owned and I cannot think of a saloon version I would prefer over the practicality of the estate.
I think this was the high point in the C-class estate. Proportions just right and quite tasteful. Later models seem incredibly dull unless you spec bigger wheels and bodykit. A base C-class nowadays is just an amorphous blob. Pity.It is a 2010 C350 model - comfortable, quiet and a very pleasant place to sit on long trips - the recent addition of a roof box will help with all the stuff we take (off to Spain in a couple of weeks (1,300 miles)).

To me, a saloon is classier and (I agree I'm in the minority, as every car magazine says the opposite) but look better than estates.
Personal choice - I think estates look better than saloons by a mile, many these days are a slightly less practical slopey back form which looks cool (like a big coupe) and has the benefit of being able to be filled with stuff.I just don't get saloons. They look poo.

Who buys the saloon? I just don't get saloons. They look poo.
First car = Hatch Back
Second Car = Hot Hatch
Feeling grown up = Coupe
Feeling flush = Hot Coupe
Family car that you can throw mountain bikes etc. in = Fast Estate or SUV
Getting a bit older = Comfy Estate or SUV
Hit your 50s = Porsche
Get to 51 = Comfy estate or SUV which you spend the rest of your days with in various guises.
Saloon = ????
The only people I know with saloons are company car owners.
"Boss can I have a coupe?"
"No, wrong impression."
"OK, I will have an estate or SUV then."
"No you won't, the estate is £50 a month more, you can have a saloon."
"Bugger!"

I've had a couple of 3 series saloons and I couldn't see the point of them either. You couldn't carry anything big because the seats didn't fold as standard(yet they did in my M3 Coupe! ) so they aren't practical. They also look pretty boring and I'd much rather have a Coupe/Estate/SUV/Hatchback for sure.

The C63 version of that estate is just perfect IMO. But with the 5 spoke wheels not the really really bling ones.
Agreed! - this is mine
I'd love a tansanite blue with light coloured interior, although I think the multispokes suit the car more and make it look like a DTM car.
Have you done anything to it? Looks a nice height in those pics

The ride height in the second picture is being influenced by the full load and roof box!!
I run an 2017 A6 Allroad with 3.0l TDi. It might be the best car I’ve ever owned to date amongst 20 or so.
It’s relatively fast. The air suspension makes it comfier than both the premium SUV’s (Disco & Touareg) I had beforehand. I don’t get the same receiption turning up to see farmers as I did in SUV’s. I can carry a load of stuff and it still looks cool. No going back!
