I absolutely love my Legacy (2013 model). Theres a nice hum out of the engine and while in the summer its not the fastest car on the road, when the going gets crap in winter it gets me where I need to be alot quicker than practially everything else on the road. They are so practical also. I did a cycling race the other week and had to get changed after in the back of it with the seats down (I have the Estate model). Lots of room to do this, maybe not for the onlookers though...

I guess they can be recommended for dogging also at that rate.

I'm not challenging/doubting you bud but I am very interested.

If it is making 300bhp at 4k, that's seriously impressive even for a twin scroll. My old twin scroll made 374bhp at just under 7k but it didn't make 300bhp at 4k. My car was forged with all of the supporting mods and ran @ 1.75b at it's peak.

What's bhp is it making at it's peak?
Aaah, you're right. Peak torque is at 4k - the BHP comes in a little later on. It's about 270bhp at 4,000; it nudges over 3,000 at 7k rpm.

I forgot to look last night but I have this pic stored, which shows the top of the curves.

Do twinscrolls need a lot of boost to make power? I know its a different engine but my Impreza used to make 402bhp and only ran to 1.4bar

Ah Subaru! Now on our 6th "Impreza" , this time latest model WRX STi. So reliable, so engaging to drive. Need to ignore mpg and VED.. I'm 69 but can't imagine not having a Subaru in the garage! Was lent a Spec B some years ago as a courtesy car and was mightingly impressed.

Ah, ok smile

Still that's fairly decent, shouldn't need to many mods to get a fair chunk more power although I'm not sure if your car has the 5 speed or the 6 speed. The 5 speed is a fair bit weaker but either way you'd likely need to budget for a stronger clutch with the other mods if you wanted much more power.

I don't think twin scrolls do however my turbo was maxed at those power levels. The engine, fuel pump, injectors etc had a lot more to give but the turbo was maxed. I had all of the supporting mods (forged engine, Alcatek ECU with launch control/anti-lag, front mount etc). I'm not entirely convinced a twin scroll conversion is the way to go (unless it already has it) as it also requires a different sump, manifold, exhaust etc. I went for the conversion as I liked the idea of less lag.

We've got a Saloon R Spec B manual. It's brilliant. The noise especially.

Average of 26mpg not so much.

It's by no means a minter owing to someone slightly arranging its face against a tree and parts being hard to find (hence the scoop and lack of fog lights) but yeah, love it.

I've got the 6MT - spent a bit more (time and money) to get it. If I'm ever in a five speed I find myself reaching for sixth when you're doing speeds up to and including 70mph. wink

I've only had it a few months so happy with the power as it stands at the moment. Would like a little bit more rumble from the engine, mind. I like intake noise so might look at loosening that up a bit.

For me, the noise became epic when I changed over to a front mount + RCM induction kit and a remap. With the twin scroll, lots of boost and induction kit, it sounded epic! Even just lightly squeezing the throttle you could hear the turbo spooling, it sounds so good you end up just accelerating with the window down for the noise hehe

Also If you've got a twin scroll, you'll not get the rumble I'm afraid because you'll also have equal length headers. The rumble is produced by unequal length headers but on the plus side, equal length headers produce better spool/power.

Lovely car, like you I treated myself and bought a JDM twinscroll but auto with paddles. I have a different bumper to you and some STI parts from the factory like front strut brace, STI springs, etc.

Love just pressing the #s button and having a very quick getaway from the lights, how do you find the manual as I don't think I could accelerate any quicker than the auto does, its pretty seamless too?

And like you say only those in the know understand what's under the bonnet.

2 local nippers in a 270Z tried to chase me down on a country road and I left them for dead, they actually followed me to the village and when I stopped asked me what the hell it was! made me chuckle as they thought it was some old bloke ( I am 48) out in the family car.

Enjoy yours.

Treated myself a few months ago to a manual JDM 2.0 twinscroll Legacy wagon. Breathed on slightly to 300bhp @ 4,000rpm.

Spent a while looking as I wanted the facelifted model with the 6spd box.

Honestly, it's awesome. Very attractive (to my eyes) and nobody seems to know that there's anything special going on underneath the bonnet, until you press the fast pedal, at which point it becomes almost hilariously quick.

You can drive it as gently as you want and it's very civilised, but if you stick it in S# mode it becomes a complete animal. Not too laggy, either: the delivery is really quite smooth (certainly compared to the kick in the back I got from the 2.5t in the Forester.)

Here's mine (before I sold the Fozzer):

Finally a thread worth commenting on.

I bought a 2005 manual spec B tourer last August and the car is superb. Given my budget at the time, I could not find a faster car in better condition; 58k on an 11year old car with every MOT and more service receipts than you could shake a stick at.
So far the only things to go wrong were a puncture on the way home from picking it up (grrrrrrrrr) and the tie bar that seems to be a common but cheap fix. MOT'd in March and only had an advisory on the exhaust.

One thing that surprised me is how many people started talking to me about Subaru reliability as soon as they saw it in the car park, there seems to be a lot of closet fans out there. The boot is mahoosive, its got such a long wide deck that it fits most things. I've had some performance cars in the past, but this corners far better in all weathers and pulls much keener than the B6 S4 I used to have.

Questions you guys might be able to help with:
- Bizarrely, the glass in two of my windows has started 'rippling', has anyone else come across this? One of the windows had ta baby's blind in it and the suction cups have actually put rings in to the glass(?)
- I wanted to put some roofbars on and thought the screwpoints in the roof runners would be compatible with the feet I had, but it looks more like they are for fitting roofrails, any clues? Thankfully the boot swallows everything, but it'd be good to know before kid #2 arrives.

SMaybury - Yours looks amazing in black

Vtecyo - I saw one of these in a services somewhere (Hopwood I think) I couldn't believe how much a colour and set of alloys could transform a car

I had a set of roof bars that came with my car, they bolted straight on, but, I don't know how specific they are though.

i got rid of a CL55 AMG that was a nightmare and have not looked back, just had a remap recently and it goes (and sounds) amazing.

Understated is putting it light i think when it comes to this car, probably 99% of the population have no idea what it is and that suits me just fine.

Have the car a year and a half now and aside from the original service i have nothing but fuel to spend...

which is another thing, i basically brim the tank each month - city driving kills it for economy on long runs it will see well over 30mpg (try sub 20 for city)

I find it hard to believe i could get a BMW or similar German 6 pot of the same year and milage (2008, 90k ish) that would offer such sure footed AWD driving pleasure, minimal to no maintenance fees, 245hp+ and spec (cruise, heated leather w/memory, sat nav, dual climate, HID ..) for the same cost

its been like that for years sadly, people have slowly lost the will to drive.

People who drive SpecB Legacies are a rare breed.

My tax is north of £500 a year, fuel is a bit sucky also but who cares? Its not like I am begging on the streets to get by on a daily basis.!

There isn't a sweet spot - they are all wallet-drainers!

Spec B Legacy costs over £500 a year for RFL - so why not buy an M3?!

IMHO I'd just SORN a Legacy as uneconomic! laugh

Anyone who has had both able to share a comparison between the 3.0R and the previous model twin-turbo GT-B? I'm thinking about updating from my 2002 (Rev-D) GTB to a manual 3.0 at some stage.

Someone talking shiite as usual.

Comparing a SpecB to a M3 now, apples and oranges.

I wouldnt buy a M3 of that era anyway, I like the 'maintenance free' lifestyle i am offered by Japanese marques, a 2008 M3 is going to break your wallet, the £500+ tax doesnt even come into it.

A remapped manual 3.0R Spec B is rapid, the H6 is bulletproof itself. Best log onto uk legacy for comparisons Vs a 2.0 Turbo and not listen to idiots like Tidy here who probably drives some diesel pos.
