Either the Royal Oman police used special poverty spec cars or stuck turbo badges on non turbo cars as a 900 turbo
of that era never had those steel wheels on.
Probably spec'd for poverty.of that era never had those steel wheels on.

Manchester police used these six especially made Sunbeam Lotus traffic cars in different colours with no stripes.
You could usually spot them in the mirror by the moustache on the bloke behind the wheel, that was part of the uniform back then. The 2.8i Capri's were a very common sight in Manchester.

I remember going on a school trip to The Netherlands in about 1982 and seeing the Rijkspolitie in their 911 Targas.
They all looked a bit miserable - it was raining and they didn't have the roof panels in place. Quite a spectacle for a bunch of 12 year olds to see though, bearing in mind the most exciting Traffic Car in the UK was probably still a Rover SD1.
Well, they weren't allowed to have the roof panels one, no matter the weather. Snow, rain, whatever the roof had to be off. They all looked a bit miserable - it was raining and they didn't have the roof panels in place. I had the pleasure of being in the passenger seat of one for a weekend (a 964, one of the last), was 16 or 17 at the time so no chance of myself behind the wheel. That was about six years ago - so they hadn't been in service for over 15 years - but with the rijkspolitie livery on it, it seemed people weren't too sure we weren't police. So they promptly moved over
Also the police wasn't sure the livery was allowed (it is, the rijkspolitie doesn't exist anymore, it has a different name and livery now), as we were pulled over to check. I'm quite sure they knew it was allowed and they just wanted to have a look, can't really blame them
I think it was the most awesome car I've had a ride in, always with the roof of off course (fortunately the weather was good...).
Good article - answers something I had wondered about years ago when I started a job in Antwerp (in 1994). Part of the role had me driving up to Rotterdam and on the first such trip I was minding my own business on the motorway coming back when one of those 911's suddenly appeared in the rear view mirror - nearly st myself. Nothing dramatic, thankfully - as soon as I pulled across into a gap they just accelerated past and sat on the bumper of the next car in the traffic.
There were always a lot of motorcycle cops around in NL when the weather was good - seeing a swarm of them was almost like a first sign of spring . . .
