"You probably don't need reminding what AMG stands for... but in terms of what it represents that's pretty easy isn't it. Fast Mercedes, especially ones with big V8s"
You are forgetting that AMG didn't just do Mercedes!
What about the Mitsubishi Debonair V 3000 Royal AMG the company created in 1987???
Or the AMG version of the Lancer?
Wow. I thought I knew a lot about AMG. Turns out....... You are forgetting that AMG didn't just do Mercedes!

Very fortunate to have a CLK63 Black series and am pleased to report that it's every bit as good as I'd hoped it would be. Actually, scrap that, it's much better. It's light on it's toes and very revvy and is miles away from the more hot rod style of contemporary AMG's. It's not that quick until you get up the revs but that's no bad thing as you are rewarded for booting it whenever you get the chance to do so.
If a SLS Black is half a million the CLK has to be a bit of a bargain at a fifth of that.
Bravo that man, especially for appreciating it in such fashion. I'd echo all you say about it, albeit with an envious green tinge. Enjoy! If a SLS Black is half a million the CLK has to be a bit of a bargain at a fifth of that.
And picking up on a few other points...
The 190 was a 3.2 'Baby Hammer' and not the 'Cosworth' 2.3-16 it might resemble at first glance. I was really keen to have a go but there were only so many minutes in the day unfortunately. And, as per the copy, the distraction of the CLK DTM was too much to ignore.
SLK55 Black Series likewise. I've a real soft spot for these and actually drove it when Mercedes UK had one on the press fleet. A lot to like about it, though it was a spiky little bugger with a tendency to push on with that big heavy lump in the front and then suddenly snap into pretty violent oversteer thanks to the aggressive diff out back. Nothing like the CLK Black, which is nicely balanced and defaults to wonderfully predictable and catchable oversteer the further you flex your right foot, even with all the systems on. Wonderful car. But I think I said that already! Sorry not to get another go with the SLK Black on the day but, again, time was pressing.
And the C63 Black Series is another great car but, to my mind, not as attractive as the CLK63 Black. It's got a similar character in many ways and a better transmission too. But I don't think the performance step is that great over the CLK and I think the looks are a bit too shouty in comparison. Offered the choice between the two and I'd go CLK Black any day of the week, though I can appreciate the attraction. Each to their own!
As you can probably tell, there have been worse days out.
Thanks all!

No AMGs between 1971 and 2004?
I could swore I had an AMG from 1996 a C36 AMG and now have an E55 AMG from 1998.Very disappointing that the article seems to concentrate on the current range.

Ex C55 owner. I think the title should be AMG latest hits rather than greatest hits. Prefer the more stealthy styling of the earlier cars myself.Very disappointing that the article seems to concentrate on the current range.
