It could be promising in the rright colour.
I have to agree with the "bloated" comments. Could that belt line be any higher? With the roof on, I bet a tank would have wider window apertures.

Other than the shape (I like round wheels) that steering wheel (for Max_Torque, hand wheel) is quite a natty design.

2 buttons on it - I don't know what they are, but it's a good reduction in number. Fewer would be even better, but...

There's a clock at the bottom. I think that those buttons are start/stop for the clock. You're only going to use that clock when on a track (I hope) so it makes sense to have that function at your fingertips without hunting around or taking a hand off the wheel.

Apart from that...

It could have a rounder cross-section to the rim, and be a circular wheel overall, but it's a concept of course. I like the pseudo-3 spoke aspect. The "spokes" by your thumbs don't actually connect to the hub. I'm not sure how comfortable metal will be as your main thumbrest though, and shiny bits on wheels are awful - brushed is ok.

Ok I'll stop talking about the steering wheel now...

I'm dying to see what the new Supra comes out like now.

Looks stunning to me, very modern and not just another generic coupe like the TT.

The Z models have always looked different (ok the last one was an exception) and aged well this looks like another winner.

Lol. It is an F-Type convertible ripoff. Jaguar need to get their lawyers on the phone.

Not a fan - looks lardy, flappy-paddles, non-mechanical handbrake, pram-top (I assume, because all the photos show it with the roof down). laugh

Maybe time for a Supra!

I'd have to agree there. The profile doesn't look very BMW-like although it is beautiful.

Some angles are nice. The massive intakes in the front bumper are awful... nothing elegant about that.

More interested in the Supra.

I like it a lot!
Front intakes look a bit lambo to me.
Rear is nice and smooth.
I don't see f-type in it, or the bloating. I think it's quite low and wide at the back.
Nice design to hide the roof with buttress behind the headrest.

Priced slightly less than a boxster??
I could see myself in one of these.

I echo your comments although given it's likely to be a folding hard top (the article makes no mention of what the roof is made of) I'm not holding my breath.
Rag-top roadster only - that's the rumour/talk anyway.

Any news on the engine front; straight sixes or turbo four cylinder?

I'd be amazed if it isn't the 2.0 inline-4 turbo in a number of states of tune, with one turbo i6 sitting as a halo model.

I think the real question is whether we'll see hybrids, a diesel, or both. I suppose an "M" model is possible too, which a higher powered version of the i6.

Given it's part Toyota I'd imagine a hybrid is likely? Has there ever even been a diesel "z"?

I don't think Toyota's "HSD" hybrid setup is suitable for front-engined RWD installation? I'd also assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the Toyota and BMW variants of the car would have entirely disjoint power-trains.

Re the diesel - no, but there had never been a diesel Mercedes sports car until the last generation SLK either and now it seems to make up the vast majority of sales. I think they'd be mad not to produce some sort of "eco" variant. I suppose we might even see a pure EV or range-extender setup?

What a stunning car. Let's hope it drives as well as it looks.

Love it! Hope it retains as much of the design as possible when it makes it in to production!

I love the looks - I'd love for the buttresses to carry over to production although Autocar speculation is that they won't.

I'm having my car serviced next week; I will definitely be having a chat with the sales people about this (not that they'll probably know muchsmile).

Same platform as next Supra.
I'm thinking shouldn't Supra be based on a stretched version of this platform. Otherwise, the proportion would be wrong in terms of the relationship of wheelbase and the length of the engine bay.
