I would agree with you but because I remember growing up in a different world. The world has changed and with it has come enormous changes in how car segments are defined. Everything is a supercar these days but I still think of a supercar as being something the head of regional planning for a county council or a dentist, solicitor or estate agent can’t afford and something that is sufficiently impractical and uncomfortable as to make many journeys epics worthy of Odysseus himself. But the world has changed. Everything is now a mobile life support system with pile warmers, stanna style seating systems, computers to aid alzheimer sufferers who can no longer remember how to turn on lights or wipers, how to get anywhere and dulled down steering to stop Parkinson’s victims from shaking the car to bits.
But maybe it’s a natural evolution. Maybe no one ever really wanted s
tty, tiny, unreliable, uncomfortable little sports cars but they were all that was available for decades if you wanted to travel at speed and attract the ladies. I think in the modern world these are both sports cars but I’d agree with you that in my world they are arse end of the market GTs that you’d probably only buy as a gift for your wife or kids.

A perfect description of your SUV I'm sure.Meanwhile we're out enjoying our real world sports cars. Not some shiny toy that only goes out of the garage twice a year.
Women and children first! That is brilliant, and it describes Porsche exactly these days. Either wealthy people who buy them to put in garages, women who want a bit of image (when do you see a man driving a Boxster these days - it’s all women in their late 30’s) accountants who want people to think they are a bit edgy or Tonka SUV drivers buying a badge.
On the F Type, I think it is a step in the right direction, but it is too heavy, not practical, way too expensive for what it is, which is a Super- MX5. There is a new one coming in 2021 apparently so hopefully they will have sorted the next one out.
My conclusion is that there are two sensibly priced Sports GT’s out there just now - Mustang 5.0 and BMW M2. That or used Aston V8 Vantage.

Sorry, and the BMW M4. I don't regard the 4 pot Porsches as desirable, and the 'real' Porsches are either unavailable to ordinary mortals, or eyewateringly expensive. I'm thinking of the 991 GTS which will be hitting £110k by the time it is sensibly specced.
