RE: BMW M5 (F90) full details
Discussion
Maybe I'm getting old, but I think it looks a lot like the last one. Perhaps (cliche alert) the M5 has got a bit clinical since the turbos and downsizing, but I bet it is fantastic to drive and live with.
I'd spend my sterling on one of those last of the line VXR8 thingys though and enjoy doing dirty great burnouts looking like a moron with a big grin my face. Might as well go out with a bang before the combustion engine is no more!

What's with all the posts whining about it being "Too Fast" "Too Powerful" "Irrelevant"???
For fcks sake Pistonheads People, if you're supposed to be car enthusiasts then we're all screwed. Where are the shouts of "Hurrah for the continued use of bonkers powerful V8 petrol engines"?
Maybe the car manufacturers should just accelerate the development of their electric-powered appliances and be done with it? How happy will you be then?
Meanwhile, just carry on in your tawdry-but-efficient 2 litre diesels. I shall continue to enjoy my E63* on a daily basis.
(*) Estate, natch.
The keyboard warriors have given there verdict, it's a "no". Then again, what do they know!

Interesting that Mazda dispensed with a cover for the mx5 instead that have the engine on display in the engine bay. BMW have gone totally the other way and hid their engine under plastic. Then again this is the company that's proud of playing engine noises through the stereo.
Er, you can see the rocker covers clearly.MOBB said:
My F10 without options was £59k brand new 2 years ago
It's going to need some serious discount for me to be interested
It's too big and too quick...........but the want is still strong lol
Really? I paid £69K for my E60 eleven years ago. It's going to need some serious discount for me to be interested

I like the car. It will be great.
But, I feel a nostalgic pang at the adoption of 4wd and last generation's adoption of forced induction, having been at an M event in 2005 at which they declared that neither of those things would ever happen. I really don't like the red buttons.

It's like Christmas, the one when I was 9 & knew where my folks hid the presents, so knew exactly what I was getting before the big day. I've seen so much of this car that seeing it sans disguise now is a real anticlimax. The frosted paint looks awful too - they could have done so much better for a press car. I assume the CS or GTS or whatever that will inevitably follow well be the one I can distinguish from a regular 5 series in a car park.
I'm sure it's a hell of a drive though.

Is this yet another car with the ubiquitous ZF8? If so, boring (the choice of gearbox, not the car as a whole).
Apparently so. It'll be interesting to see how well they have tailored the box for this implementation. I've driven a number of ZF8 equipped cars and think the DCT in my F10 is much better suited, personally.Do like this a lot though...

Never really understood these cars , for the same money you could buy great sports car and a great cruiser and have money left over. Its a jack of all trades and a master of none (Same for Merc. and probably the new Audi S8)
At least the V8 normally aspirated AMG's sounded like a NASCAR on steroids, they had a party piece, other than the numbers the engine does, it's not remotely interesting. AmosMoses said:
Epic performance and will be a seriously fast everyday car.
Ok, an M5 has never really been a "UK" kinda car (too big, to wide, to well, too everything compared to the smalelr, more nimble M3) but i literally have no idea how you are mean't to even start to use the performance of a car like this in the UK? My 3er has precisely half the power this has, and i can't use all the performance that has to offer very often............Zod said:

Sounds like the E63 is the one to go for, looks like it too.
Which will spell discounts on the M5. Paulcarcrazy said:

Have to disagree with that. Both the AMG and M5 share the honours of being the ultimate in saloons - so how are they "master of none"?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
