My pre-catalyst XJS V12 is subject to the charge, which is fair I guess hehe
But my 1994 Celica GT-Four is apparently exempt?

Good. They should ban all cars in London imo, it's the one place public transport actually works.
I generally agree but I would take the view that residents should be allowed cars as it isn't residents within the CC Zone who are using cars for the commute but have them parked all week and just use them at the weekend for domestic purposes. But that no private car belonging to a non resident needs to be there.

What's really needed, as I've raised before, is a clearer view as to who are the private car owners moving about in the CC Zone and why they are there, passing through or parking etc.

As raised earlier though, the vast amount of traffic in the CC Zone is minicabs, taxis, vans and other generally commercial traffic.

This new charge is going to be a pretty harsh hit for the poorer residents in the immediate area who have no option but to buy a new car that they can clearly ill afford to do. As you suggest, it's no issue for non residents who have non compliant vehicles as they can switch to public transport or change their route to avoid the charge.

As someone who has lived in Zones 1 and 2 all my life you don't generally see residents using their cars for the commute but rather the side roads and arteries are all full of non residents driving in or through but it's the residents who'll be hit most by this as they are now liable for a charge at the weekends just to drive out of Town if I've understood this new charge?

sure, for those who live there...
however, the dynamic of London is a city where people come in as well as live there - ban the car and would some workers have to move in? and house prices would increase, or companies move out...

decisions made can have unexpected consequences

Agree that there are always unforeseen consequences but I doubt you'll get anyone needing to move in. Millions commute in each day and only a very small number are doing so by car. Besides, £10/day is still cheaper than £8m on a Zone 1 house. biggrin

More likely that without the ease of using a car it could release those people to move further out as they'll get more house, better schooling and a seat on the train?

The real issue if they try to expand it is that the current public transport network works very well for travelling in and out but not well for going round. Someone who lives at 12 o'clock in Zone 3 and works at 1 o'clock in Zone 3 becomes pretty buggered if they are taxed out of their car. It'll require a massive expansion of the bus network to cater for that type of change. As such it'll just punish the poorest by forcing them into deeper debt to obtain a newer car they had no real need for.

The VRM checker lists our 2002 BMW 325 as Euro IV compliant, I thought it might be as the same engine is fitted to cars sold in 2006. Though the only time we have driven it in the congestion zone is when we picked it up over ten years ago, nice to know if they keep expanding the T zone we can still keep it until it falls to bits.

ETA: Put the car details into http://carfueldata.direct.gov.uk/ and the values it comes up with actually meet Euro 6 requirements

I don't imagine the current criteria will remain static though. It will be tightened until there are no ICE permitted you'd expect?

Bugger, didn't realise that the ULEZ was expanding. Living in zone 2 and within the circular, I guess that puts on hold my idea of buying a 520d headache

Certainly seems an old VRM checker. My private plate has been on the car a year and it can't find it.

Saying that, if I put in the original reg it says I'd be charged despite the car being Euro 4?

Echo someone else, how can this st be signed off?

I wonder if they've closed the "but my car is a taxi" loophole that led to Lamborghinis running about with the tfl taxi sticker in their windows.

Yes,DVLA probably don't do Italian descriptions so went for silver\aluminium,which is near enough.
I always called it silver until I heard it's Fiat name which sounds fancier than it is.

Excellent - Saab were really thinking of the planet when they built the B235R engine. My 9-5 Aero isn't affected.

That's great news for all of the zero times I've driven in to London.........in the 15 years I've driven.
