Not Enjoying Driving Anymore

Let me get this straight.
Driving a Skoda, which doesn't have enough power to skin a rice pudding, through Bristol on a Thursday afternoon isn't fun?

It'd be even less fun in a luxobarge that has to:Driving a Skoda, which doesn't have enough power to skin a rice pudding, through Bristol on a Thursday afternoon isn't fun?
Hold the front page...
1 creep down narrow car park ramps because it's too long and wide
2 creep and scrape over speed bumps because it sits too low
3 has to wait for ages to pull out past some parked cars because it's too wide
4 needs a remortgage after guzzling vast quantities of fuel in 5mph/1st gear creeping traffic
5 can't find a big enough parking space outside the 'click and collect' shop you thought you'd drop by on the way home
6 develops a DPF fault/limp mode on the way home because being a big diesel it didn't cope well with heavy town traffic

I used to make a trip through mid Wales several times a year when I irst got my mx5 organised a few runs since getting into track days then later on sprinting and now next year club racing I don't get much enjoyment for a good blast on some quiet roads and haven't ventured up that way for a year or so.
If your finding driving dull get a track car and head to your nearest track.

Tragically, it always seems to be blokes in their 20s (I recall one telling everyone how proud he was to own two diesel Mondeos!) trying to show how 'grown-up' they are...
I'm sorry, in what way am I trying to show how 'grown up' I am? I posted this looking for advice on how I can get back to enjoying something I used to love - driving. This is, if I am not mistaken, a forum for driving enthusiasts after all. I don't know what your problem is but if you haven't got anything valuable to add you can kindly fk off

The way people describe 'the south' here you'd think it's a bumper to bumper nightmare, on all roads, at all times!
Having lived in the Lake District, & now in Hampshire, I actually think the driving roads are a bit better down here.
Get yourself an old car with good driver connection, & enjoy!

I've now realised who you are. You're the bloke telling us how your 1.0 Skoda "showed up" numerous faster cars at the traffic lights. I immediately regret posting.
Not me mate. I wholeheartedly acknowledge that it takes seventeen seconds to reach 60, and regularly poke fun at that fact. It appears the chap above is the one you're after. I haven't read his thread but his comment about other drivers being half asleep is a valid one.
I don't know what you have to be so insecure about but if belittling everyone is what helps you sleep at night then I recommend seeing a counsellor.
If we're done slapping each other around the chops, I might be able to offer some constructive advice.
Whenever my circumstances change, I often find changing my car to fit the circumstances helps. On the occasions where I've tried to make my car at the time fit those new circumstances, it's never worked out as well as I would have liked.
For example, I had a lovely Alfa Romeo 166 V6, which I liked very much. Then I got a job with a 100 mile round trip commute (I previously worked around the corner from home). The fuel economy of the Alfa became a pain, to the point where I stopped enjoying the car. I chopped it in for a MkV Golf GT 2.0 TDi DSG, which would return 60mpg on my commute, but was still entertaining enough to put a smile on my face at the weekend.
If I were doing 130 miles a day in a Citigo, it would take me about a week to become VERY pissed off with driving. Sounds to me like you need a barge. Get yourself over to the definitive thread on the subject - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Hope this helps.

You've just given me a potentially dangerous idea....Whenever my circumstances change, I often find changing my car to fit the circumstances helps. On the occasions where I've tried to make my car at the time fit those new circumstances, it's never worked out as well as I would have liked.

What im absolutely not under any circumstances going to do is find a 20+ year old reliable barge and couple it with a classic policy that covers commuting
Being young and having an accident on your record really sucks in terms of regular insurance!

Yeah, insurance is the reason I have my Citigo. Really fun when you don't have an experience of something all-round better though. What im absolutely not under any circumstances going to do is find a 20+ year old reliable barge and couple it with a classic policy that covers commuting

I'm not enjoying driving because of those undercover police who will pull you up and report you for overtaking on a double white line or whatever even though its 2pm in the morning on open roads. I'm always worried about having any fun now because of these undercover types. Driving has become an excruciating experience.

So don't cross white lines perhaps? If you find that excruciating then maybe find a different source of fun.OP, did you say you have the option to jump on a train to work? If so, give it a try and then do a bit of driving. Odd comment for PH I know but I say that from experience.
I used to commute 13 miles to work (back in 2003!) in a Clio 172 which was a brilliant little car. Despite being out in Surrey I used to average about 20mph most of the way and it took all the fun out of driving. Even now I think a 172 is a great car to enjoy but not when you're in stop start traffic. I used to find myself avoiding driving of a weekend.
I started commuting by train so mid week didn't really use the car but when I did get in the car I enjoyed it far more.
If you're commuting by car in stop start traffic or on the motorway, you just want the comfiest most effortless drive. If you're aiming to engage on a nice country lane or decent road then that's when you want to be out of range of the commuters and in a more manual type of car. In my opinion that is.

I haven't encountered any plain-clothes traffic cops in years. Maybe it's because I'm not on the road at the right times...
65 mile each way commute in a Skoda Citigo is your problem.
Frustrating as rush hour traffic moves at it's own pace and you just have to go with the flow.
I don't think I'd want to spend anymore of my week in a car after that.
My weekends usually involve getting on the road bike and enjoying the lanes to get some fresh air and exercise after commuting.
