So you are on the exit slip road and wish to go right, obviously its the right hand lane as it is with all roundabouts, there is no left turn off the roundabout but there is a straight ahead, so this is what the left lane is for. However its pointless going straight on because if you wanted to go that way you could just stay on the motorway for a bit longer and take the next slip road, but its still an exit none the less, however plenty of people do go straight on there for some weird reason (you had to do this years ago before the "improvements")

Because of this a lot of people turn right from the left lane squeezing out the ones who are in the right lane, most done even bother to indicate, so if it is is ok to turn right from the left lane, whats the right lane for?

It tells you both to go right.

As said above - follow the instruction given by the gantry sign; i.e. use both lanes to travel towards Carrington.

As you'll know, there are then road markings to merge in, as you join the A6144.

I agree it's a slightly odd arrangement, and you do need to mindful of vehicles in L2 at the 'pinch point' as often lane discipline goes out the window, but it does help traffic flow overall. Rather than just allowing vehicles a single lane coming off the M60.

I live about 10 mins from the junction, so I'm familiar with it.

Based on your google maps link, both lanes continue all the way around the roundabout, therefore why are some drivers getting squeezed?

Similar to the exit from the west off the A13, going to Lakeside retail park, if I recall. You exit from the west, go round with two lanes to exit at the south, or keeping going fully round to rejoin to return back towards the west. Either lane (or as some highways amuse me with 'use both lanes' signage! I am sometimes tempted to!)

Which, in fact, are present on the previous junction exiting the A13 (east) to Lakeside mall... on the slip road proper, the signs are there "Use both lanes". But people sure do get ratty when you actually do use both lanes- outside slip to inside line for the first roundabout and the second...

Normally what happens is drivers don't maintain awareness that it's two lanes all the way around.

Typically those drivers maintain L2 all the way around and can then be seen to drift across to L1 quite early, way before there is a need to.

If I get any suitable dashcam footage illustrating the issue, I'll upload it smile

Are you sure, the way I see it is the overhead signs tell you that both those lanes go in the Carrington direction and the sign to the right says the other 3 lanes go to Stockport but you would still have to move out of the lanes to actually go to Stockport, otherwise you will go in a circle forever.

The two lanes offered for the junction exit are both for Carrington, yes.

The signage to the right on the gantry relates to the other 3 lanes of the M60. As you'll see from the lane markings, as you pass under that gantry you're committed to exit the M60 at Junction 8. So heading in the Stockport is 'out of scope' :-)
