I'm gonna stick my Ultima GTR firmly in the "racing car for the road" category.

You're in my neck of the woods, I've seen you going about in that. (The AA logo gave it away)

I do also remember driving past you when you'd broken down outside of Newbigging...

Yup, same neck of the woods.

What ya mean "broken down"?!?!?! Pah... I was just, err, sort of, ummm, parked up unexpectedly and needing a push smile

(It was a hot day, I had been doing some of that "spirited driving" stuff... and the temps in the engine bay got so high that fuel started to vaporise. 5 mins later all was well again. Hopefully solved with more heat shielding and gold foil and a return to more typical Scottish weather)

Basically the 80's and 90's homologation cars make any current 'race cars for the road' look a bit damp.

They were literally the racing cars in base spec.

See the R390 and others have been mentioned, another special one in my opinion (and from growing up with Gran Turismo) would be the Ts020 Toyota GT-One

They built two road cars, which were virtually identical to the racing cars, albeit they managed to incorporate a different dashboard layout and climate control. In a Le Mans racer!

Looks mental too:

Friend of mine says it drives like his Lotus 11 with a few more creature comforts.

I would also add the Nissan GTR. Drove one on the track and it's the real deal.

Nissan GT-R? Electric seats and windows and traction gizmos and a stereo etc etc etc

I'm starting to think some PHers have never seen a race car...
