It looks good but then you are taking away a lot of what the E-Type is about when you remove the engine. Maybe there's room for an easily backward convertible electric drivetrain conversion? But then there are probably 'lesser' E-Types floating around which will never be returned to their prime and this is a way to get them to someone who'll at least save the car is some form?

Or maybe they'll find a piece of paper somewhere with a bunch of unused chassis numbers???

This has reminded me of the cars in Gattaca, which was perhaps prophetic in this regard. The notable cars were the DS2 and the Studebaker Avanti whispering along with electric motors.

They are so cool in that film, although I feel quite conflicted on the reality. If it becomes the only way to keep them on the road however, I would rather that than have them stored away unseen in private collections.
Agreed! Citroen DS would be another perfect candidate for this as well.

Thanks for the offer.

Remember the movie Gattaca, they used Citroen DS and Rover P6 in the movie and make it look like electric powered. It is not exactly a bad thing for keeping classic cars ( I have a few classics, from Lotus Elan (1971) to R33 GTR), at least we can keep the classic shells on the road...there are people prefer the styling but not the mechanical troublesome of the classics, similar reason to we convert electronic ignition in older classics instead of keeping the very unreliable mechanical ignition systems.

However, can Jaguar try to keep the cabin and dashboard as original as possible? what on earth that putting a carbon fiber surrounding on the a E-Type? And what's the point putting a 7" multimedia screen on the central console...make those things as discreet as possible!!

I like E types but think they are a bit overrated, not like there is a shortage of them really is there, any car show has a selection of them in various colours, all usually restored to better than they came out of the factory.

Put this powertrain in a DeLorean instead, get rid of that crappy, wheezy Renault engine.
I like this idea!

You made an electric car... out of a DeLorean?

Not true wherever it came from, apparently it's a custom-designed battery pack (i.e. the housing etc) by Jaguar using LG Chem cells.

I assume its because the Formula E teams main sponsor in Panasonic. So they could be using a Panasonic battery

But Panasonic and Telsa are partners, With new automotive batteries being jointly made. So by the power of elimination if Jag use a Panasonic battery they are using a Tesla one.

I could be wrong.

various similar conversions have been done already, including a 911 and a classic Range Rover

www.electricclassiccars.co.uk/

personally cant see the attraction in an E type

could totally see the attraction in something like an old landrover where the engine is rubbish plus low down torque is just the job

A really cool move. Would prefer it with the engine and transmission sounds appropriately synthesized, please. Can live with the stench of unleaded.

I wondered whether there was logic behind the original statement, I can see yours though - however, it's LG.

Sorry but the future is looming dark and large, well actually light and bright. The conservatives want to ban all combustion engine cars by 2050, so therefore guess what every E type and other classic car will be a museum piece, oh yes and worthless. Now this may not happen by 2050 but the future is writ large

Do i like it no not really, is it clever and novel, yes will i start to get my head around it as the years tick by, yes, as we all move to EV's ( see what i did there) this will become the norm

And I for one would much rather see an E type etc etc etc still on the roads begin used and enjoyed than becoming a dusty collectors piece from the dark ages

I know a couple of people involved with Tesla and I know that Jaguar were very strongly looking at using there batteries as Tesla don't have any patents on there technology so that it can be used by other manufactures. The long term plan apparently is to become the biggest supplier of batteries in the world hence the huge factory they have just built.

I assumed as the I-Pace has appeared fairly quickly with a 90Kw battery just like Tesla's that a deal had been struck especially as there where rumours they would also get to use the Tesla charging network which of course would be a huge asset to them. When it came out they wouldn't use the network I thought it was bit odd but thought maybe they didn't want to promote to much that it wasn't there battery.

Of course things might have changed I haven't been following the E-Pace hugely I could be doing 2+2 and getting 10.

Apologise to those that know more about the project than I. If Jag have created there own battery well done them if it gets genuine 300 miles at speed I would consider it over my current Tesla
