So it's a 1600cc engine which develops silly power. Fine. But needs a rebuild every 30k. What the fk does that cost? I hate it smile
I guess those that can afford the car will be able to afford the rebuild. However, on the basis of the mileage covered by most of the McLaren F1s sold recently even in 25 years time very few of these will have needed the rebuild.

On another point, if this really is closely related to the F1 engine I suspect Ferrari, Renault and particularly Honda will be keen to get hold of one!

F1 engine ? Will it take around 45 minutes to start like Hamilton's Sunday cruiser does ?

Wonderful. They'll cost eleventy billion, be bought by a small number of people who will tuck them away in a cocoon and be brought out to play rarely.

The "joy" of hypercar ownership. Or so I'm told

Any chance of seeing something mere mortals can access?

I think it looks good, to me it recreates the good bits of the CLK-GTR (the arch of the roofline and the overhead air scoop), while bearing a more appropriate snout. It's not beautiful like an XJ220, but it's neat and purposeful like a McLaren F1.

Also, the technical ambition of this project is fantastic - F1-style powertrain and aero - and seeing the car look real is quite exciting for this reason.

Current dominant F1 constructor announces hypercar that revs to 11,000 rpm, using technology loosely based on the race car. And PH complains?

FWIW, the only thing the Ferrari F50 shared with the F1 car was the engine block. It shares far more parts with a 355.

It sounds awesome but I can't help but feel that I'd rather have a Zonda 760RS than this.
Ah, that's a tough one.

The Zonda is naturally aspirated, more extroverted in styling, Italian car with a German engine, and is recognised as very special.

On the other hand, can you imagine taking this AMG around Spa, with all its downforce? Plus it's got a genuine connection to the championship-winning F1 car of the past three years.

Anyway the Zonda is a solid-gold classic, so if this new AMG is more or less as sought-after in a decade, they'll have done well IMO.

Spin the headlights 90 degrees would help immensely. Currently looks like a dog with 3 tennis balls in its mouth, or that hideous front bumper you could get for the supra in nfs underground 2 lol

I am sure there will be plenty of people that want one because they want one to go with their other Hypercars but I don't think it's the Hypercar most mere mortals would have.

According to AMG "It is still a 1.6-litre F1 engine, with the original crankcase and cylinder heads. We have to change the injectors, and reduce the compression ratio a little, but that’s it. You don’t need an F1 team to get the car started: you hit the button and it fires up, on 98 octane – or maybe 95."

So not F1-spec, but a variant of the F1 motor.

If I had any real money, it would go on a Singer Porsche to be honest as these hyper cars do absolutely nothing for me...They are all about aero and speed and how fast the go round a track...The are really just investment tools....

There's a series on this site called Shed Of The Week - that'll be right up your street and fulfil the requirement of seeing something mere mortals can access. rolleyes

In the meantime, the rest of us on here can and will enjoy this car.
