RE: Porsche 911 GT3 Touring - Frankfurt 2017
Discussion
Hmmmm, a very interesting car!
Firstly, it's a manual version of a fast 911 - great use for many who want / can afford such a thing.
Secondly, I'm keen to see how it sells. If it's not limited edition let's assume the speculators will turn away and residuals will be inline with the normal GT3. So the sales really will be down to those who want / can afford a manual version of a fast 911.
PH, would be great if you followed this up in 12 months with some sales figures.
I'd love to know if the cry for the manual fast 911 was from those who could, or those who just love typing that they would to!

Whilst I agree that they make far too few, you have to appreciate that it does make sense to have loyal Porsche owners to have first dibs. However, you'd like to think if someone got an allocation for a 911 R or a GT3 RS, they would be overlooked for this car in place of someone who missed out previously.
Totally. Agreed. LaurasOtherHalf said:
It would appear not. Which kind of spoils it for me.
Surprised there's no PDK option however (even as a manual guy myself), if your daily commute includes lots of traffic it would be nice to have the choice.
Not wishing to be unpleasant, but I guess if you want to use it to commute you have the option of buying a different 911 - GTS or something. Surprised there's no PDK option however (even as a manual guy myself), if your daily commute includes lots of traffic it would be nice to have the choice.

The perfect car.
Am I right in expecting it to be impossible to buy? (for people who don't want to fellate sales managers or buy serial diesel ste SUVs)?
Yep, you don't get a mythical brand status by letting everyone with 110k buy one - force them to buy half a dozen models beforehand!Am I right in expecting it to be impossible to buy? (for people who don't want to fellate sales managers or buy serial diesel ste SUVs)?
In 2014 I bought a Cayman GTS in the US, my first Porsche, after 15 years of Mazdas, Mitsubishis, Fords and Toyotas. 14 months later I realized my mistake and put in deposits for GT4s and Spyders -- both in advance of announce.
I got two GT4 allocations. Two. I actually passed on both because I wanted the Spyder (missed my Miata, wanted skinnier tires), and got that no issue. Moreover, I actually negotiated $1000 off MSRP. Spyder's not going anywhere until I die.
I did my 2-year service the other day, and out of curiosity asked the general manager of the dealer if I ever had a shot of getting certain cars. For the GT3 I was told he recommended a deposit at least 6 months in advance of announce, because people have their deposits in far earlier than that. I'd get an allocation slot in time, but it might be a while because all the early allocations are already spoken for. For a GT3 RS I was told having a deposit at least TWO YEARS in advance (and that they have customers place deposits as far as THREE YEARS in advance) and that I might get bumped in a long-termer committed to buy. For a GT2 RS, he said the dealership may not even get an allocation, and even then long time buyers would get one first. Though for supercars, he said its far less of an issue, because the last N% take a while to sell. For invite-only cars, he said I'd need to be a VIP, but reminded me that a few 911R's in the country sold to people who simply inquired because all VIPs actually backed out.
So for the super rare stuff? Good luck. For a regular GT3 or GT4 or Spyder though? Put your deposits in NOW (or ideally, months ago), and I can't see why you wouldn't get one. Granted, that's how it works here in the states, with the exception of a few markets (SoCal, SoFl, Dallas/Houston).
I'm not some fancy-pants somebody either. I'm some guy who just saved a decade for an attainable dream car.

We already know this will be an amazing car, but - intentionally or not - if it's even the tiny first step in turning GT Porsches from speculative investments back into sports cars that people want to own to drive then it is a very good thing.
More in hope than expectation and all that.

Is it clear that this is a car that anyone can order? I will call a Porsche OPC today.
I am not interested in any of their other cars. None. And I won't buy cars I don't want to "build a relationship"...
What are the chances that everywhere else this will be a production model and in the UK it will be limited numbers?
confused by the word "package".

Porsche UK could help to solve the problem of speculators if they like BMW M Cars, carried out an inspection service @ 1,500 miles. They would soon notice which owners mysteriously no longer had access to their cars and black-list them accordingly.
I think this new GT3 Touring will prove more popular than the conventional GT3.

**swoon**
That really is my perfect spec 911 (perhaps with rear seats so I can take the kids out from time to time too).
I did say in a different thread that if Porsche ever made a GT3 without the wing that I would buy one..so off to the dealer today to see if its possible to order one..

It's a package because it's an option on the GT3....in the same way the Clubsport Package is (rear cage, four point harness etc)I am not interested in any of their other cars. None. And I won't buy cars I don't want to "build a relationship"...

So I am afraid that this is not a new model it's just an option on the already sold out GT3. Well to be precise all the allocations/cars OPC expect to get are sold/allocated. If the production run is extended there may be more cars but most OPC's have a list of (existing) customers waiting for them
Whilst it's entirely up to you to not want any other Porsche products it's also up to Porsche who they allocate cars to when they have three times as many customers as cars. I am sure in whatever business you are in you look to build relationships with customers that are most valuable to you....Porsche haven't covered themselves in glory in the past but I think some OPC's are pretty straight. The one I deal with is the best car dealer in terms of across the board service I've dealt with in 25 years of buying cars.

Nah - a 1,500m service means they wouldn't see the owner for about 3 years. I think this new GT3 Touring will prove more popular than the conventional GT3.
