RE: Audi R8 RWS - Frankfurt 2017

The salesman and I assumed it was, as the VIN ends in those three numbers after a series of zeros.
However, we might both be completely wrong!
This VIN thing...However, we might both be completely wrong!
This intrigued me as I too would love to know which "number " I have. (583 by the way, anyone got a lower one?)
In a previous life I had 20 years on the manufacturing/design and development of the industry and I know the Voodoo surrounding un-picking VIN strings often needs the help of someone from Bletchley Park! There is some info on the internet but it doesn't answer the real question as to whether there is a "unique" code in the VIN number of our cars which identifies it as an "RWS"
Armed with a long drive ahead from Worcester to Perth (In my van) I decided to amuse myself by taking my normal coffeee and comfort stops in convenient Audi dealersips! with the hope of scalping some R8 VIN's with which to make some sort of giant simultaneous equation that would reveal the answer. Carlisle were very helpful in my quest for the truth!
I saw 9 R8's including one crucial RWS, in Crewe.
I could (but I wont) bore everyone with what each character stands for, but instead I will skip to the conclusion.
Sadly there is no unique RWS VIN identifier.... Finally confirmed in Perth by a white V10 Spyder which has exactly the same VIN string as my own car save for the last three digits.
It sems to me that the clock is simply reset to zero with every model year introduction (J for MY 18) in the code for our cars and the digits are just the assembly sequence, whatever the model spec....
Hope this was useful but it certainly enlivened a 400 mile journey!
Good to see some great reviews coming in. Loving every minute of mine!

Picked it up today when there was a window in the weather when it was not trying to snow.
First impressions: How comfortable it is and how completely drama free it is in sub zero temps. After squeezing into Porsche GT buckets for a good few years the seats are a lot more comfy. I suspect that track use will throw up the inevitable opposite problem of insufficient support but its a trade off after all. Plus heated bum warmers . try getting that in your GT3 buckets.
The whole car feels not quite as focused as a GT product but its early days. The steering is especially calm at low speeds but appears to weight up and come to life as soon as you start to press on a little. Once again this might be a really good compromise as Mrs bigmowley likes the light feel at lower speeds.
Loads of tyre scrub when maneuvering, always a good sign that the geometry is optimized for pressing on rather than parking.
Not that impressed with the quality of some of the interior bits, plastics and trims. This is the first Audi I have ever had so perhaps I was expecting too much. I am Ok with it at the price point and Porsche GT interiors are nothing to write home about but a bit disappointed.
I wish that the initial start up did not feature the "hey look at me everybody I have a very small penis" blast of exhaust noise before it quietens down at idle, I love noisy exhausts but there is a time and a place. Can it be programmed out????
I will do the full running in spiel as per the handbook so it looks like a quick jaunt to Europe soon to knock off the required 3000KMs ASAP prior to giving it the full beans.

Anyone looked at their service indicator? Mine’s set to 20,000 miles or two years. A bit surprised as normally VAG try and con owners into an unnecessary 10,000/ 1 year regime on their regular product. I know longer intervals are normal on Porsche products, but not sure if this feels a bit too long on something this special? What do you guys think?

I would service it every 8k / yearly ... it's a high performance car after all. T

Mine is the same but your oil change indicator will be half that. I've done 5000 miles in mine now so should only be a few months before I have to go for the first oil change.T
These look fantastic.
I’m very tempted to do the deal next week. White or Daytona are available , to be used as my new daily.
I wanted a GT3 touring but I am done with waiting lists.
One of the cars has the bigger wheels , bucket seats and full leather which seems an expensive option but nice.
Anyone have the buckets? I have only seen them in pictures and they look okay for daily use and the leather may stand up better?
Any opinions welcome.
Many thanks.
