The diffuser and exhaust look very aggressive!

I like it though, and the car generally.

Will be a rare sight on the roads though (for every Renaultsport Megane/Clio spotted, I've seen about 6 Golf R's, and 1000 Fiesta/Focus STs!).

Looks a lot better than i thought it would have been miles better than the CTR, and the Interior and especially the Sports Seats looks good! No option for some proper Recaros though?

Thing is the Hot Hatches in that segment are so so talented now they're all closer than ever and there's still that pesky Hyundai to come too.

Renault shouldn't get rid of a signature colour for their range. That orange is nice though and adds something new. Their mistake is giving it the same name as the flat orange paintwork for the newest Mini Cooper S!

I've got a feeling that they may be saving LY for their Trophy version though.

Bit of an odd launch strategy.

Underwhelming power figure vs its rivals (perhaps enforced by what the new 1.8 is reliably capable of), plus a virtual confession that a better version is coming along.

Surely RS' more hardcore supporters, myself included, will just wait for the Trophy?

No pics of the seats nor reference to recaro upgrades either.
That's pretty much the Renaultsport way though. If you look into the majority of the past iterations, the drastic improvements have always been applied to the Trophy version.

The newest versions of their cars are always a bit watered down and often don't get rave reviews at first. They seem to tweak and perfect it when the Trophy comes along though.

Looks great. I'm excited to hear the reviews once people have driven it!

If the following lines don't appear in the reviews for the new Megane RS, i'll eat my hat:

"The Megane has grown up"
"Much more refined"
"Lost it's dynamic edge"
"We'll wait for the cup/trophy version"
"Needs an extra 20bhp"
hahaha, so true!

Don't panic. This PH review is incorrect. Here is an official picture and what the Press release actually says.

The Renault Press release says... " A new body colour has joined the Mégane R.S. family – Volcanic Orange. Like Renault Sport’s iconic Liquid Yellow, the new finish benefits from special work to combine a unique sheen with a special effect as light reflects off the body"

The current 'GT' comes in at ~ 1.4t (EU = wet + 75kg). That's with the auto box, but smaller rims and the standard body work and probably a bit less standard equipment.

So a guestimate for the new RS = 1480 kg (EU) in the heaviest config (auto box, big wheels, locking diff).

Not that bad actually, pretty similar to an equivalent Golf. The Mégane is a pretty big car as well...

LY is a lovely colour but it only really looks the best in the sun or when under some decent lighting. Also, it seems to command quite a premium when picking up a used one for sale, especially for the older models.

It's a similar story with RB but that just seems to look great anywhere and everywhere, IMO.

Indeed - last time around they released at least 8 Cup-based iterations in 7 years of production.

But for Patti to admit, even before they've launched the car, that there's a better one around the corner is a strange thing to do. Surely most diehard RS fans are now going to hold off rather than splash £30k on a launch car that'll be superseded in less than a year? I know I'm going to!

Looks great apart from the orange paint. 280hp is more than enough!

The gearbox is said to be carried over from the previous model, I suppose this means the relatively short gear ratios are unchanged? In that case, great news! Really gives the car an eager character. The old car pulls hard all the way to the redline and has great steering feel despite using an electrical system, hope that doesn't change either.

Will be interesting to see what four wheel steering does for b-road agility.

If this car does well it might help to stymie the ridiculous HP wars that the other manufacturers are waging with their hot hatches. But I doubt it. I have hope, though.

True. I was hoping for 1.4t EU in manual and the lightest rims, lightest option configuration (inc Recaros), but that's probably not realistic in light of the GT weight - I don't know what engine the GT has though as I am also hoping the 1.8 aluminium will lighten the front end compared to the old 2.0 iron thing. I think the 4-wheel steer add quite a lot of weight too...

Still I think it looks great and very understated. It will be even more invisible in grey, perfect for me, not that looks bother me that much.

There's too many different types of hot-hatches out there now so, IMO, it makes does sense and i can see what they're doing. The Trophy will, no doubt, be more special and more hardcore. Not everyone wants that and it is some-what of a niche category, even for Renault.

Yeah it's always been around £1300, which is a bit daft. For that reason, not many get specced so it becomes a rare colour. You know the rest, ect.

I hope Alien Green makes a return but it always seems to be a discontinued colour and not very popular, so they end up scrapping it. Ultimate Green on the MK2 Focus RS and Viper Green on the MK3 Scirocco, as other examples.

Alien green is lovely but people just don't buy bright solid green cars, oddly though, on the Clio 200, Storm grey is even rarer but would probably be quite a seller now as there seems to be a lot of solid grey Octavias around, I can see that working well on this.

Thank you, much appreciated. The videos floating around (i.e. Evo's) show them pretty clearly too. Sutcliffe says they're the same as the GT's. They look more attractive than the MK3's boggo ones.

I agree it's better to offer the choice than just one model like a Type R for example. e.g Carrera S, GTS, GT3, GT3 RS etc....Although the Cup chassis is hugely capable for the EVO triangle type roads, the standard Sport chassis is still hugely capable and better for urban driving and accounted for about 50% of sales when it was an option on Clio 182.
In a video released today someone from Renault Sport said the 2019 Trophy will have the headline grabbing 300hp with a further modified Cup chassis with limited slip dif etc so there will then be 3 models. Also the standard Sport model means a cheaper price than the fully kitted out car or most competitors so you get R.S. engineering excellence at a lower price as not everyone has an unlimited budget for the model with all the kit.
