Scrappy for a similar coloured boot lid?
Not sure they would agree to this, but I guess the cost would be similar. I tried searching on the bay but couldn't find any for my model year.

If you are willing to accept a financial settlement in lieu of them repairing it, then that woould be a win-win all round.

You get the cost of the repair works in your pocket, without the worry of the body shop doing a bad job.

The garage pay out the cost that they were going to pay out anyway, but without the worry of you coming back to them post completion, should you feel the repair was sub-standard, etc.
They would probably get you to sign a disclaimer, I would.

Ye exactly, that's why I posted this thread. What would you guys do in my situation, get it repaired anyway and risk potentially more hassle or just take some money and leave it be.
Just get 3 quotes from the repairing garage in writing, get the money off them saying that you will save them the hassle and sort it yourself and then pocket it. They will guess you will pocket the money, but hey ho, they probably won't care.

Instead of spinning your head round the situation, you should be proactive and thrust a question in the relevant subforum for your area regarding recommended body-shops. Some fans in the area might be able to point you in the right direction.

What car and colour code?

Just let the garage have it repaired at a good bodyshop or get 3 quotes yourself from places you trust .

Most cars have had paint on the road and your average Joe would be none the wiser...

^^^ this in my opinion.

I totally understand where you're coming from OP, and I don't get why other posters are being so critical even if it's not what they'd choose to do.

I personally hate having to have garages do any work on my car, and I'd personally rather put up with a small dent with some money to make up for loss of value and how much it'd annoy me than have repair/respray work done.

I get that most other people (or normal people! wobble) would take a different approach and would get it fixed.

It'll probably be just fine getting it fixed, but sometimes it isn't.

With a quality repair this should never happen. In some cases, a bodyshop will have a better paint finish than OEM.

The garage who have caused the damage sound good with how they've dealt with you thus far, so I would assume they'll use a reputable bodyshop so they have no further comebacks.
What he said.

As long as the bodyshop is reputable, the repair work should be totally undetectable.

OEM factory paint finishes are rubbish on many cars these days. My business has repaired many red Audi's which have suffered lacquer flaking off from the factory paint job. It only happens on red ones, no idea why, but it does.

We repair many new cars before they have even been to their first owner as well, and no one can tell.

Bottom line is: check which bodyshop they are going to use, and if it appears satisfactory just let them fix it.

It will be fine.
