People saying the police don't give a st, I think you'll find that they do, in my area stolen cars get chased/recovered every single day, plus the work with ANPR, phones etc. The people who are stealing the cars are actually pretty well organised too though, that is the reality frown
I don't think it's that. Even with all the updated resources and technology at their disposal, there is only so much that coppers can do. Even if these people don't admit it, when this sort of thing is said, i think they do actually realise that. It's more of just understandable anger when you work hard to buy something only to have it nicked by some scumbags.

However, i can't help but feel that the Police really don't reassure the public enough with this kind of thing though. I get the general consensus that the're simply waiting for another robbery to happen and for the assailants to cock up and get caught in the process. Either that or the car ends up being found dumped somewhere. Either way, it's not exactly preventative measures being taken, is it? They will generally tell you the same stuff you're being told on here aswell so doesn't put you at ease.

This might be a joke , but a largish dog is always a good deterrent. We don't have anything as desirable as your car , but a few years ago the neighbour's ( not next door ) informed us that they and three others had been burgled. We had a great dane at the time and were left alone.

My wife's old boss's new Merc was taken along with her handbag in the night , a few weeks after delivery. She now has an Alaskan Malamute and has had further problems.

I would also think about one of those hijack alarm systems. So if you are threatened on your drive , give them the keys and it cuts out 30 seconds later when you have got your family and you to safety .
Yeah but I would be worried that they poison / hurt my dog

Just googled that place where the Cupra was taken from - Oldham hehe

Grim.
Quite. One of these is top of my list for my next daily. I eschewed a Golf R to avoid exactly this sort of nonsense (and the Seat's are cheaper anyway and my first two "quick" cars were sporty Seats). I'd hope that rural Shropshire doesn't attract the same risk!

I know several people its happened to in and around Weybridge. Always been RS6 and RS4's. Mainly estates but one softop.

You don't go looking to steal a nice car in a st area.
Evidently some people do but fair enough.

You'd think it would be easy pickings in Esher and Cobham, but I don't hear about it being a big issue.

Got an M140i 5 door arriving soon. Should I be concerned about this kind of crime? It's my impression that the 140 isn't as popular with these characters as VAG 4WD hot hatches.

Hoping that the car will fit in the garage so it'll be kept in there most of the time.

Disconnect the Battery at night.

Pain in the arse everyday , but could potentially put them off if they think the car doesn't actually start?

...at risk of sounding like a broken record.....the issue here is around deterrent ?

If the punishment were sufficiently severe these bcensoredards wouldn't steal cars. They do it because they are not afraid of the consequences of being apprehended.

It is the same with jail. There should be no repeat offenders. Jail should be so horrendous that no-one sane would dare do anything that would result in them being sent back.

As a civilised society we delegate or right to "deal" with such individuals to the State. But that 'contract' is being stretched now to breaking point.

Something needs to change. And quickly..........

I agree with the sentiment but it doesn't work. The US has very harsh penalties yet has a huge prison population. Whereas Scandinavian countries are relatively lienent with a less harsh prison system but have lower crime rates and fewer reoffenders.

Harsher penalties will not solve the problem.

Or..

That would be a lot better with "...we call 1911" and a pic of the appropriate Colt...
I don't get it.

Oh, there's a gun called a Colt 1911. Right. In common with, oooh, most people - I didn't know that.
Your ignorance didn't make it less amusing.

Yep, that figure is just for S3s - 0.086% chance of theft.
Looks like 8.6 cars per 1000 to me, so 0.86%.

Majority of cars in the top 10 are 4WD, so better suited to bank robberies in the wet that your typical AMG / M cars (up til the most recent lineup).
I know a lady in Scotland, lives in the middle of nowhere, but needs 4wd as it snows most years, her husband bought a new S3, not had a problem.

Chap I know with an RS4, lives on the outskirts of Stockport, car stolen and found in Leeds, there was a chap that was killed in Didsbury for his S3.

Point being, bare figures are useless, less than a 1 percent chance of getting it nicked, thats across all S3's in the country, an average so, does the ladies S3 in Scotland have the same or different chance of being stolen as one in say in Oldham, i would say not, I would say hers is possibly 0.01 and the one in Oldham is a maybe a 20 percent chance in a given year, also, those figures are actual thefts, not attempts.

I used to work in Crime Analysis, plot it on maps and you will see the patterns, will probably be a small group in each area with a similar MO, by and large they dont travel huge distances, so Oldham scrotes wont be up in Scotland, there is a time constraint, they like to be near the motorway network as well and they like to know the local roads and escape routes to avoid ending up cornered. Some offend in areas they used to live in for similar reasons.

Would be interesting to get to the bottom of what they are actually doing with the cars, every S3 not being sold via an Audi dealer should eb very carefully scrutinized, any cheaper (for age and miles) examples in the hot spots I would be massively wary of, anything "converted" to look like an S3 is pound to penny probably done with stolen parts, cant imagine many go into Audi and pony up for the full kit, seats, mirrors, wheels etc to put on a leggy three grand tdi.

Interestingly (or maybe not) but it seems the most popular crime to commit in Esher is of a violent or sexual nature. 183 reported in last 12 months (only 43 vehicle crimes reported).

On a recent trip to the USA speaking to the locals, they almost seemed shocked that we don't have guns in the UK, one asked me what do we do if someone get into your bedroom at night. I had to pause and think, all I could say was I don't know throw a pillow at them. In some ways they have the right idea when it come to defending themselves.
Maybe, but when criminals break into our houses, they do so with a knife/hammer etc, not with a gun.
I'm pretty sure a criminal with a weapon drawn will be much more dangerous than me waking up and bleary eyed trying to route around for my gun in the hope I can shoot them before they shoot me, also guaranteeing that one of us has to die.
Good luck with your pillow against someone with a knife/hammer, let me know how its works out for you.

Clifford Blackjack is the answer

And parking the car in a locked garage so thieves don't know when the car is home.

I had a blackjack on a car I owned previously - it was very effective when we tried it out...the car shuts down when the brake pedal is pressed so typically at the end of the street.

I don't think you will have to worry too much about gun-toting Yardies arriving in the Welsh badlands.

First of all OP, really sorry to hear the troubles. I've not had any break ins but any incidents near my place puts me on edge let alone someone trying to get in the front door.

Sadly, if thieves target a car they can go to the extreme of breaking in, threatening you etc. I depends how unlucky you are.

You can either go down the route of leaving the car on the drive, keys by the front door so if they do break in they can help themselves. Less risk to you if they're a nasty bunch.

Alternatively, you can do the opposite and make it as difficult as you possibly can.

CCTV you already have, steering lock, retractable post, block the car in, hide keys etc. That may be enough to deter opportunist thieves looking for an easy target.

I have my CLS parked up on an open driveway under CCTV but fortunately is fairly quiet area. Because I don't use the car often, I cover the car up. That's more for keeping it clean as opposed to theft prevention but even that may be of help.
