I've got a few neighbours near me with 911s and the like, there's a Bentley Bentayga is nearby too. Only seems to be the fast VAG turbo things being so aggressively hunted for around here as I've heard from the police that it's easier to sell the parts afterwards and/or use them in other crimes mainly robberies, and car and non-car related thieving because they are easy to blend in.
So you're saying they literally wouldn't want to be caught in a Bentayga?

Does this happen to actual, proper high end stuff ? exotics, Bentleys, 911s etc ?

Or is it just fast VAG turbo stuff ?

Do they blend in that well though ? plod will be well aware they are a target and to be honest, see so many being thrapped around doing the obligatory farty crackle gearchange, even when driven sedately, they are fairly distinctive to anyone who has a clue about cars, but I suppose its the performance and traction they want, and its about as subtle as that performance gets, plus they are fairly compact I guess.

Slightly confused. Eh?

Really confused. Whit!?

fk. That post above is a little close to home.

I have had a call from the police today, that they've found the bds that tried to carjack me in Birmingham in August. Does anyone know what it means if they're released pending investigation? Also was asked if I'd show in court, does this mean I'd have to sit in front of these s and say my name and address? Maybe when my contract is finished I shall fk off back away from here, it's a shame because I really like Solihull.
Released pending investigation means there is currently insufficient evidence to charge them. They could be on bail or released until the Police can find further evidence to charge them.

If you go to court, highly likely that you will have to sit there and give evidence. Having said this, it's highly likely that your name is already in paperwork / the system so there is potential they already know who you are.

Not really sure what to recommend but there's loads of good stuff here explaining their release:

I've been stopped quite a bit in my Golf R in the early hours and the reason is mostly because they're stolen. Usually always just an ID check and I'm on my way.

I've got an RS6 at the moment and I'm not parking it on the drive for this reason.

What I gather is that the police know that they are a target for theft, and I have been pulled over after driving home from a call out in the early hours, but to the average bloke/lady in the street they see the criminals, or bds as I know them, get out of a "black Audi" or a "15 plate Golf" in the witness statements, and as PH knows there's millions of that sort of thing about. Plus people not really knowing a lot about cars seem to have an idea that these more upmarket or expensive brands will always be fast. I had a hire car A4 1.4 for a little while before my lease began and more than one person was really disappointed when I told them how it accelerated.

What's the practice regarding outside lights. Recently came back home in the middle of the night and noticed it's very dark in our close and all lights are out. There are lights along the road which go out at midnight and then it's total darkness. I started keeping lights on for the whole night since reading all these "stolen car" threads. Is it worth keeping them on or just install flood lights and rely on them during the night?

Only 1 car related crime in my area in the last 6 months, unfortunately my wife's car was the target
Well, I'm glad I live in Scotland because there's not a single car crime up here according to that map. All stops at the border!

I was a bit worried when I got the Giulia QF but I've had Evos, Type Rs and Subarus parked out front and nobody takes any notice. I figure they probably reckon an Alfa won't start even if they have the keys and parts selling on is incredibly limited. Plus, the neighbour has an M4 CP so I'll just tell them to go up the road instead.... tongue out

It just gets data from www.Police.uk so you are better off using this directly and filtering to Vehicle crime as co-op is basic, the source gives a breakdown by month.

Ha, wish I hadn't looked at that! Apparently my relatively small village has a good few 'vehicle crimes' reported per month [all of them 'no suspect identified']!! You wouldn't know that living there.

What the one right by TRW? Blimey
Yeah that's the one. The bloke started to run away but the 2 guys followed and bashed him over the head - they didn't take his keys or car in the end though!

That starts to sound like it wasn't about the car.

It's also becoming a problem for people with blinged-up VW T4/5/6 vans. More for the bits being stolen off them - as has been with Land Rover Defenders for some time. People wake up to find various bits stolen from their vehicles. A ready trade for spare parts (either for replacement or upgrade) is the prerequisite for these types of crimes.

Then there's the other issue of 5 door fast hatches being useful vehicles to use in other crimes. I'm assuming the scrotes need a constant supply of these, in order to churn them and stay ahead of the law.

I would definately think of installing some motion sensitive flood lights, if someone walks near the house and suddenly a light illuminates them it could make them scarper. Obviously, it wont always have an effect.

Our house is detached and has lights/motion sensors surrounding the house so if anything moves around, it pings them on as they are detected. Obviously no good if everyone is asleep though.

We also have cameras

I was always told if you want a fast and guaranteed response, get guns! I hope your experience wasn't too traumatising.
Just made me a lot more wary. I now have pretty good security, a mouse cant get down our drive without me knowing about it.

Still rife where I live though.

I'm thinking about security lights INSIDE my garage.

One aimed at the main door, one at the "person door" at the back. Surely that would be overwhelming enough to at least scare off an opportunist, and maybe partially blind a more focused attempt!

Ultimately anything "lock based" such as bollards, gates, etc are just moving the problem a little bit. Ultimately they're still going to come into the house and rummage around for keys - which IMO is the scary part.

You guys see this? Another in the midlands.
Anyone know why they run away? Did the owner pull a gun or something out of the passenger side?
Guy is tough as nails to not go down after the beating with poles. Wish he had killed them.

Haven’t seen that before. Think you are right that he had a gun or perhaps some other weapon like a knife.

Did well to withstand the beating. Was one of them using a gold club?
