Where do you get that car thiefs are opportunists ?

This isn't the 90's where cars we're nicked solely to go joy riding in , cars are now stolen because there on a shopping list of wanted cars.

Opportunist's don't put trackers on cars at shows/supermarkets so they can then rob the car owners house and simply steal the keys.
I didn't mean opportunists in the sense of car theft to order which is quite different, although the same time limit would generally apply.

NOUN
a person who takes advantage of opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle:
"most burglaries are committed by casual opportunists"
Most car thefts are from house break in's where the car keys are present or where the car or keys are left in an unsecure place, and car jacking where there is a good 'opportunity' to do so.
Your wrong .

Look how many houses get broken into and the only thing stolen is the car keys , so it's not just a break in and they grab the keys on the way out , it's only the keys they want.

If all these cars were just being stolen for a jolly then we'd be finding the crashed/burned out cars and we're not they are simply vanishing.
You think so? Best you read the crime statistics then...readit
BTW I was not referring to 'car theft to order' break-ins in my OP.

Most cars stolen are stolen for a purpose, planned, not because someone saw some keys through the letterbox

So they want a certain car for a robbery then they just randomly break into houses until they find one with with the car they want ?

Of course not , if they want a audi s3 they see one , then they find where it 'lives' so very much a planned robbery .

Wouldn't call them opportunists. They're just organised gangs, they take them when they need them. Use them for other crimes such as robberies, drug related crime etc and then the car either gets scrapped or broken for parts, usually by another gang or person. Very few of the Audis that have been nicked have been exported or stolen specifically for parts. They're stolen because the police cant keep up with them, there's enough space for 5 masked gang members and a boot for all the money. The majority of robberies and serious crime, especially in Birmingham will use a fast Audi as a getaway car
Would like to hear your opinion on the above theft, I assume you would have fought back?(given your statement meant earlier)

If so, when would you have given in? The hammer being wielded? being hit a couple of times?

Genuinely curious.

The fact is though if they do nick your car you will be penalised by insurance companies afterwards so it is not an event you want to happen. If you can spend 1k to make it very hard to steal with bollards then it's money well spent In my view.

Look, all I I know is that my 5-year-old daughter, my 8-year-old son, and my wife wouldn't thank me for attempting to stop a gang of burglars from taking something that is fully insured and replaceable. To be honest, I find it pretty insulting that people are suggesting that by doing that I'm acting in an undignified manner.

And to the kick boxer, don't you have siblings, parents, a partner? Anyone who might care about you?

At no point in this thread have I said that taking precautions isn’t worthwhile. If you read my posts you’ll find quite the opposite in fact.

So you're presumably under the age of 21 which is why you think you're the next Bruce Lee?

Let's hope we never have to cross that bridge.

I've not read all 20 or so pages so please forgive me....my friend had an A45 AMG & now has an A63 AMG & having had her house broken into and the keys stolen for the A45 which they miraculously didn't steal at the time, has taken to parking the current A63 away from her house - her thinking is (& this applies to all cars) unless they know which house you live in, or have a set keys etc., you'd be unlucky if they randomly came to house a few 100 yes away by chance for the keys. Of course the idea has limitations with one of them being if you live in a rural area you can't do this. She's also bought a Disklok which seem to be very much back in favour & keeps the key separate to the car keys.

Above all else, it's a sad indication of the some of the people in society we have.

I'm no expert, but I'd hazard a guess at the following;

Fast
Expensive to buy new & used
Very easy to drive under pressure with dsg & 4wd
4 door can carry 4 adults & kit easily
Fast
Blends in quite well
Parts are worth a fortune 2nd hand
Can be taken without keys if necessary.

i suppose if they want it, they just follow her and jump her when walking back to the house.

Or wait until she goes to work in the morning .

Most people generally leave home the same time every day .

I think one consideration is that parts from VAG cars have a wider audience. Take for example the theft of Audi S4 seats because they could be sold for a small fortune to the OEM+ Dubbs crowd.

No amount of security is 100% but I have pull up parking posts on my drive, 5 of them as it's 7 metres wide, they are quality ones buried 3 foot down with quality button locks, when there down you don't notice them only a flap. Not had any car pinched yet (touches wood)

Yes, these threads always go around and around:

How can I up my security? >
make sure your house is secure enough that they move on to the next one>
but don't end up living in Fort Knox >
I leave the keys downstairs, visible indoors >
what, you're a total mangina! >
it's only a lump of insured metal >
I have layered defences, and if they breach them all, I'm a Dominator >
You'll end up locked up >
Park on the road outside >
You'll just get jacked >
I have a tracker >
It'll get jammed >

It comes down to 2 things, 1 If they want it,they'll have it. 2 Don't live in Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, the Midlands or London if you want to own a 'nice' car and sleep at night.
