Nice and retro but unashamedly mk1 Golf
Yep - absolutely this 100%.
There a few people in Wolfsburg sat currently very p!ssed off.
Someone's getting sued
Take a look at the original civic that actually pre-dates the mk1 golf. The Honda lineage is clear to see.

This concept looks bloody brilliant, IMO. How can they get this so right and their current range so wrong? biggrin

Please put a normal interior and a revvy petrol engine in it. I'll buy one. Such a cool looking car.
100% this.

I wonder if they were looking more at the little "Life" "Z" and N600 Kei cars rather than the Civic for inspiration?

Very cool looking little thing though, with a less out there interior I'd happily roll around in one of them.

I really, really like it. The first EV I would seriously consider.

I do kinda wish they had stuck with the CRX lineage though. Perhaps a sportier version may be based on that - just make it actually quick this time please!

Other than the wheels, I think this looks great. Cross between Mk1 Golf/205 GTI definitely jumps out. Finally an EV that I would actually think of buying, shame it's just a concept!

So refreshing to see a honda with clean simple lines. I love this car. It's an exact opposite to the latest Civic.

Honda needs to build this or at least use the feedback to influence their design.

There's definitely a lot of golf in it. But you can see lots of small cars. Clubman fronted mini is a good shout. Early civic/n600 also true. Nissan Pao. Autobianchi a112. All kinda squared off little hatchbacks with round headlights. A classic design really.

For those saying it's a copy-job of various European cars, I'd say they've reimagined the N360 instead!

Think they are clearly referencing their own past, here's a souped up N600 that also looks rather mint IMO smile:

Predates the Golf by some 8 years, first car they exported to the US, and a bit like Japan's mini.

Still, not surprising many see some Golf Mk1 in it. Much more present in European minds, and IMO the brilliance of Giugiaro's design was to clean up and simplify the lines of the then emerging FWD hatch.

Really like that Honda concept. If this comes out nearly close to this I think they are onto a winner.

Edit: @Kirkkit - beat me to it smile

There are styling clues from different cars, no doubt, but who cares as long as it looks as awesome as this!!

I also like the interior, although that bench may lack some lateral support....

Are city cars allowed their own (somewhat less strict) crash standards? There's a lot less to work with, here, in terms of crumple zones, intrusion, rollover, etc.
I don't think there are any requirements regarding crash standards (well apart from Airbags and that 5mph crash that is/used to be(?) mandatory in the US and maybe others). You just may sell less cars due to a poor NCAP rating.
But those A pillars unfortunately look a bit too weak for a good rating... Maybe new materials and clever design will allow those slim, gorgeous looking A pillars to be made again in the future! They vastly improve the ability too see and maybe avoid that other car/tree/cyclist/etc. that the big, fat A-pillar is made to protect you from!

I've been amazed so far at just how crap the EV's (and the hybrids) have looked. Outside of the i8 (which looks like it's giving birth/eating a 911) they are all terrible or plain dull.

It's nice to see one that doesn't look st.

The font reminds me of a Mk-1 golf. I like it but don't understand how a company that can make this also made the last two civic
Type R abominations.
