RE: Honda Urban EV Concept - Frankfurt 2017
Discussion
Clearly looks like the older Honda super minis. Can't see golf at all. Maybe a bit of 1275gt but to me it's unmistakable a retro Honda.
First EV I've ever thought I could ever possibly want to own. Hopefully a bit of motor tweaking can have it accelerating like a tesla.
Please don't let us down Honda and make it just like the concept.....apart from the wheels that is.

I don't think there are any requirements regarding crash standards (well apart from Airbags and that 5mph crash that is/used to be(?) mandatory in the US and maybe others). You just may sell less cars due to a poor NCAP rating.
But those A pillars unfortunately look a bit too weak for a good rating... Maybe new materials and clever design will allow those slim, gorgeous looking A pillars to be made again in the future! They vastly improve the ability too see and maybe avoid that other car/tree/cyclist/etc. that the big, fat A-pillar is made to protect you from!
Note how upright the A pillar is. One reason they are so thick on modern cars is the 45+ degree angle they are at, which gives a much higher bending load in a rollover. But those A pillars unfortunately look a bit too weak for a good rating... This looks like it has got the aerodynamics of a brick. Strange for an EV. This and all the crazy screens doesn't make it look very credible.
With a turbocharged 3 cylinders, manual box and a cracking exhaust, it might be a lot more attractive though. It will probably end up like the similarly great looking Nissan concepts from a few years ago, i.e. in the rubbish bin.

I love it as it is! That front seat like a sofa is ace, the messaging will be a right laugh, the interior wide screens very imaginative, the wood a nice touch. I even like the steering wheel. But those wheels, too BMW Alpina for me, hope they change them.
But I do wonder if some plonker tries a K20 conversion!

Obviously many nippers on here that have never seen a Mk1 Civic, probably because they rotted away so quickly The concept is properly lovely. Even if they have to thicken up the A/B pillars I think it would still look great as long as they are black.

other than the i8, this is the best looking EV i've seen from a mainstream car company (Tesla only makes 50k cars per year). I would be tempted to buy one when they come out if they look like this - so that i can ditch my diesel mini for townie driving....and keep my M5 and Rangey
Only 50k cars per years so you're not going to count them? That's about twice as many as anyone else in the US.The vehicles this Honda reminds me of are the Renault GT5 and the Jeep Renegade.
This awesome looking little car makes me wonder why Honda came up with the design for the latest Honda Civic Type R.
Clearly they have the ability to design great looking cars. If THIS was the Type R, or even if it had a smaller VTEC engine, it would have swept the floor placing into the touch any of the competitors that exist.
