I'm seeing and hearing this too.

i live in the countryside and never seen a duster, it is the usual old 4x4s. I would be very surprised a genuine farmer bought a suv for his farm but i guess you must deal with them.

There's a post just above yours from a guy who actually sells them to farmers...

I'd prefer to live in a street of Dusters than a street of 'aggressively styled' white German metal. Something makes me think they'd just be nicer people.
biggrin. I suspect you are very much correct.

If you're surrounded by lots of Dusters you're probably in quite a nice part of the UK with sane people and a deficit of 60" TVs from AO.
I can now back this up - went to see some family in Haslemere (Surrey not Bucks) the other day, very civilised and it's crawling with them!

It does look great, but I think they risk adding that much stuff to it to make it attractive and well appointed, that the price will rise to the point where it will cost the same as a 'known brand' but still be a Dacia.

That would be a shame.

I dunno, it hasn't done Kia any harm - and that's a proven quality car these days. Whilst I can understand why someone would sign up to a 116d at 17 grand with a chunky discount (pre reg or whatever), I think you'd need to be insane to blow twice that on an X1.

But I don't think Renault would price Dacia stuff at Renault levels tbh - they've found a profitable, non threatening sweet spot right there.

As mentioned earlier, I have a 1997 car and a 2016 car.

Although the 2016 is a hoot to drive, to over licence busting limits, I am constantly worried about damage and where to park it, yet I find the 1997 car with it's knackered suspension, a relaxing drive and I just don't worry about every scrape it gets, state of the roads I drive it on and where I leave it, sometimes for days.

Having something nice these days also attracts the wrong sort of attention so that's why I am tempted to sell the 2016 and buy a basic Duster.

They are what? £10k on the road. Drive well, I have driven one, and I just wouldn't worry about it.

I bought a brand new Disco3 once, it lost nearly £20k in the 3 and a half years I had it. That's 2 Dusters.

There is a long running thread about a Dacia Duster as a White Goods car and the OP is just loving it. He bought the most basic model so he had to wait for it on order. Hardly anyone goes basic apparently, but I don't see the point of speccing it up.

There's quite a few Dacias in Germany and, in my experience, they're almost always driven by brain-dead zombies. I believe they fall in to the "don't give a st about cars" category.

You do realise that's the majority of the market. Making cars that are basic, cheap, reliable, and that appeal to millions of people who don't actually care about cars, doesn't seem like a bad business proposition to me.

I would quite fancy a basic basic one second hand. Steel wheels, basic engine and spec. Smashing. smile

Maybe, but they are tight as fk, so David probably has a point.
Not as tight as a Yorkshireman though. They've had all the generosity wrung out of them :-)

Zero stars? Upped to 3 with airbags?

No steering wheel airbag? Seriously?

I never liked the rear lights on the last one but quite like this, even if Fiat Chrysler Jeep should be suing over the design of the rear lights.

rather like the Mk 1 Cortina, this is a big car for the money and, being Renault underneath, can't be that bad. When I retire, i would rather buy something like this than rent a car. never been a badge snob, never intend to start.

Probably to do with lack of warning beeps for everything except headlights and seat belt. Even the seat belt one stops after driving a while.

Yep, have a look at the actual breakdown scorings; performs well for crash protection etc but not so well for warning bongs etc.

When did you last have a serious accident? We should just be happy that cars are much safer than they used to be.

I'd love one of these in basic poverty spec 4x4 with some decent AT tyres.

Every council estate I see is full of X5, RRS, and Audi crap. I dare say 99% of it rented.
