£5k City Car also planned.

If they bring that out at £5k they'll sell millions of them.

Back when Twingo II was finished there was rumours of a small Dacia based on the platform but it never materialised, I guess it's a tough one for Renault and having sales taken off the Twingo, however from my experience Twingo III isn't a great seller.

A £5k small Dacia would be a massive seller.

I bet they won't. Even though a lot on pH salivate over a cheap car they vast majority in the UK aspire to something different.

I would rather spend 5k on a second hand car rather than a cheap car. The city rover didn't really sell well even with massive discounts.

But still... 3 stars?
I have never, ever in my life checked the safety statistics and ratings for any car before buying it.

It simply doesn't figure in my decision.

I would have thought that I'm not particularly unusual in this.

I'm from cornwall, not Norfolk.

We have 5 digits, they're webbed together, but just 5. hehe

With our roads starting to align themselves with their East European cousins, i'm not surprised a cheap car with a bit of ground clearance and suspension travel is selling well.

How do you know ?. I Dont get the sycophantic behaviour even before the car has been driven. The cars are basically Renault models with minimal options. I bet a lot wouldn't even dream of buying a Renault bit take options away rebadge it and you throw money at it.

But the Renaults are generally priced to directly compete with other cars in the same sector which are, sports models aside, usually better. Dacia's are not.

For anyone determined to buy a new car on a budget, I can see the appeal. Given that it will be based on a modernish Renault, it's unlikely to be really appalling.

well it look fwd the twingo is rear, so it will most likely based on the old clio, so if you went to drive an old platform car new then i guess this is the car for you...i just don't get it

Do you really care if a £5k is new or old platform?

We hired a Twingo alike Smart in Portugal, really couldn't have been less impressed.

No, it'll be a rebadged, cut-price French stbox. smile

The Rover/Tata really wasn't that bad. I mean it was probably the worst car in its class, but it was still capable of getting people from A to B. The problem was they tried to charge £6500 pounds for the thing; even the reduced £5500 for the facelift was a good £1500 more than it was worth.

The problem with the Cityrover was the timing and the brand IMO. Other manufacturers make small cheap basic cars (ala Suzuki Alto) and do well.

Another great example is the Rover 25 Streetwise. Pretty much panned by the journos, sold very little and now pretty much worthless.

Sandero Stepway, 10 or so years later. Sell by the thousands, voted one of the best small cheap cars you can buy and holding values well.
