Could nights are coming in, but on my 20min drive to work the temp gauge only made the 1/3 mark 10mins in and then stuck there, rather than at it's normal bolt upright half way round position.

Heating on, 10mins dual carriageway, 10 a road and back lanes.

On the way home it was warmer but only just made normal running temp as I keyed off.

Sounds slow, maybe the stat is stuck open?
Any of the cooling bits replaced recently? Might be s good opportunity for a refresh

Yup, your thermostat is on its way out. Eventually it won't go to 12 o clock at all.
They're deigned to fail open rather than closed so you don't overheat although they sometimes do fail closed anyway.

I wouldn't write off the thermostat before considering that it does take an engine longer to warm up when you have the heaters on flat out!

Keep an eye on it during warmer days.

Echo vsonix above - stat is sticking open

Should get up to normal pretty quick in these temps

You can monitor the temp on the digital display hidden menu by the way just to confirm. Should be around 90-95 when its warmed up and then fluctuate round that as the stat opens/closes and fan kicks in/out
