who in their right mind will spend that kinda money on a golf.
The people that get the infamous lease deals on them, I highly doubt that anyone has actually bought a Golf R outright (one less than 3 years old anyway)andrewparker said:

Yeah, it gets great reviews..........................
That's the older generation RS3. The newer one, i'm led to believe, is more improved and much less under-steery.andrewparker said:

As great as it would be, the Audi wheels and Audi oval exhausts would perhaps suggest it's more likely to be a mule for some Audi test work. Either powertrain or (given the fact it has ride height stickers on the wheel arches) a dynamics test car of some sort....or both. Fairly common for powertrain mules to be whatever they have to hand and works, or whatever they believe is closest dynamically to whatever it is they're planning on making next. This could, for example, be an early next gen S3 platform.
Is it a possibility that this is the mk8 r being developed with the 5 pot? The Golf GT clubspodt is like 275 bhp and while that is a limited run model with a different drive train, it could be VW trying to create a bigger gap between the GTI & R. I know one is 4wd and one is fwd so obviously that is the difference between them but from a marketing perspective it could make sense

Do you know what infamous means?
I do, hence why I used the word. The amount of people that've leased Golf R's has taken away the exclusivity, I wouldn't say that's a good quality so I think I'll stick with the words that I used. Yipper said:
If they can tame the understeer from the different weighting of the bigger engine, it will be an epic car, and probably at a fair price.
Agreed.hondansx said:
Why would Audi give away their USP? Seems nonsensical to me.
Because the RS3's been around for a while and they're all part of the VAG umbrella - if VAG can shift another 1,000 Golf's a year using that engine and only cannibalise ~500 RS3 sales, then they're ahead...ayman82 said:

Interesting that the car in the pictures sports MK 7.5 tail lights, but Mk 7 front lights and bumper. Any chance this could be a modded R MK7?
That's what I was thinking - could just be a customer modified car?Peanus said:
Consider that most car journalists say the Golf R drives far better than the S3 (and I agree with them), the Golf R400 could be a better (and slightly cheaper) RS3. What's not to love? And perhaps they'll give us a 3-door version as well.
