I'm struggling to find the correct temperature sensor for a P6B V8 as the part number I've replaced the old one (the tab snapped off and I cant find it to check any numbers that may have been on it) with is the right part but reads high, ie in the red then creeps up to the top part of the red. Its on a 1974 Series Landy so excuse the vagueness as thats all tat on the gauge. I've checked the temperature with an IR temp sensor and its around 78-80 when touching the red and 83-4 when in the middle of the red, Fans on and thermostat works fine. Can I put a variable resistor in line (only one tab on the temp sensor as its a 1971 engine), and if so which resistor do I need. Can I check the resistance reading when cold and hot and that dictates what resistor value I need?
Tried to contact temp sensor provider but none have been that helpful and i don't want to keep buying them just to try. One I replaced had a yellow plastic insert at the base of the tab which none of the ones I've seen do - all either red or black. Original part I have is part number 568055 which I believe is correct for the engine but it just reads too high.
I've posted in Landy forums and the Rover forum here but not getting much response so hopefully some electronics buffs out there..
Any help appreciated.

Its an electronics enquiry. I've got the correct part but it reads high so not a normal LR query. The engine isn't standard LR.
I've tried the LR forums but had no joy - only the quip responses.

Looks like you need to match the sender and gauge, this might help you https://classicroverforum.net/index.php?threads/te...

Other thing is to check the voltage that the gauge receives - a faulty regulator could make the gauges read high.

Done that. I've got the correct part number, the gauge is Land Rover and it didn't read high previously (with the old sensor) so it the sensor but I keeping getting back to the same part number, ie the one I have. Hence I need something to change the voltage at a given temperature as I know it not hot when it reads in the red - its around 80-82 degrees. Just don't like seeing the gauge in the red all the time.
There are a number of different parts for the 1968-76 P6 3500, even 2 from the same supplier - why?

i did contact mrwiper who were less than helpful.
I can either throw money at it and keep buying different sensors or put a resistor in line.
