This is where some if not all condemned Navaras with chassis rot are going - spotted at U Pull It breakers next door to Copart in York.

I'm old enough to remember Lancia doing the same thing with there rusty Betas and look what happened to them.......

I didn't, but looking side-on the chassis on a couple were horrendous.

What's the stoy behind this? Are Nissan buying them back?

Are they going to be canned or are they to be exported to be the talibans new mode of getting to work?

Wow, I had no idea. Due to a possible change of role at work I looked into buying a Navara a few years back...lucky the new job didn't pan out

Nissan won't have paid a penny out without a Certificate of Destruction being issued.

COD's are often issued before the car is physically scrapped. They are done by the salvage company upon collection and are done online with DVLA..

Thats a great photo of them all lined up, I had not heard about this, quite a fiasco in todays world rare to have something that serious.

This photo screams !

Nissan are buying them back of the owners, they then break the windscreen and remove the VIN tag of the fascia, the VIN from under the bonnet and grind the number of the chassis, they are then sold for scrap with the proviso they must be destroyed.

Although this only became knowledge to the general public earlier this year, Nissan and a few recovery operators contracted by them have known of this chassis problem since at least 2007.

Surprised this is only just coming to light, guys i know in the trade started moving away from these for towing duties around 2011-12 when they started showing hideous rust underneath and on some parts of the bodywork.
Anyone who has had a k11 micra or an aging early x-trail would know nissan can’t rustproof for st.
Hiluxes arent much better though the beds and rear arches on those disintegrate, but the chassis tends to fare better.

I simply cant comprehend with today's technology and development and research how they can mess something as basic as this?

Just stick to basic ground roots of a flipping pick up man.

Pffft, that's not rust! Weld some plates on and plaster it underseal, it'll be alright (I've owned a few old Transits...).

Seriously though, I thought modern vehicles (generally) didn't rust, that's a serious f*ck up there. eek

Nissan seem to have a problem with commercial vehicles and rust, we have a 2010 cabstar and its been looked after and garaged all its life and is in good condition, we waxed it and grease it regularly and it sails through every mot.
Our neighbour bought one a year after us and his is now scrapped because of rust, all the places I thought looked like ours would be prone to rust and so treated got so bad on his that it lasted 6 years before it bit the dust.

I have to keep on top of the little breakouts of rust on ours or it will go the same way very quickly.

The cabs are made of paint with metal sprayed inside.
