Nice to see a car that is dynamically sorted from the factory.

All the possible settings I think are nice, we all have different roads and preferences, so then the 'experts' can make their own mix that works best. Instant fine-tuning if you like.
Yes I agree - that's what the Megane has been offering for a number of years. But choice is great.

Good article!

Seems like a good car, too. I think that it looks great, particularly in that blue colour, naturally the performance pack model would be my choice if I were to plump for such a thing

I hope that they sell well (but, tbh, I would be surprised given the competition).

Sounds like a good first effort but 'how much is it a month' will be the key to getting them on the road.

Oh I don't disagree, but for a lot of buyers (myself included), it's nice to keep yourself in a new car and the negative equity is someone else's problem as you're never charged it. Decide what you want to spend per month to stay in a new car and shop around for the PCP deal. The list price, GFV, equity etc., becomes largely irrelevant.
Couldn’t agree more, not interested if it’s leased, pcp or whatever.. it’s only the monthly cost that I’m interested in.

Knowing what I pay for my Cupra 300, this needs to be around £260 a month on a 1+35 to make sense...

Impressive though, hopefully do well.

It's not often that we have an opportunity to witness the true blossoming of a brand. Hyundai proper and its newly-independent Genesis division.

By the looks of it, the Koreans are making a world-class effort and playing the long game. They've brought in professionals from other countries (even to their domestic market). And they appear to have learned quickly from errors such as the Genesis sedan (pre-G80), which did not have the powertrains and pricing to sell well in Europe (massive hit in the US, though).

If you think back to their car portfolio just five or seven years ago, the pace of change is more than impressive. Great stuff. I'm looking forward to more.

Assuming my life doesn't go down the drain in the next couple of years, this will be my next car. Absolutely love it...practical, well priced, nice styling that isn't too over the top and should be cracking to drive. Not bothered by the badge on the nose, if it's a great car then it's a great car.

It sounds pretty mean too... like a cut price Focus RS / AMG A45. Far more exciting than other cars at this price point!

As(more?) appealing to look at as the FRS, but, with a much nicer dash IMO.

Very impressive first effort.

What's its USP though? It isn't the price (too high, deals notwithstanding), not the bhp, not the styling. It does everything well but well enough to overcome people's reluctance to switch from the establishment? I'm not sure. It's one defining feature (endless configurability) seems to put people off...

I hope they sell lots of them but overcoming the ST, CTR, Gti is going to be tough. I'd never, ever buy a new one unless I drove it and was astonished.

It may be weak, but I guess its USP is its warranty. Are there any other hot hatches of this ilk with five year unlimited mileage ones? I know the C'eed's is even better, but that's not really in the same league power-wise.

Looks like a wannabe Golf, to me.
However, the main issue will be the name - Hyundai has always been a clunky name, Kia is way better, as a name.
It wouldn't put me off but I like the looks of the Focus St better - ironic since when that car was launched, everyone said it looked like a Hyundai... sadly this looks even more like a Hyundai... their styling is improving but it still doesn't inspire you.

I also don't think N is a good letter... Z, R, X, T, these are "o" sounding letters - N for numb.

I guess now the Evo's and Sti's have gone the bloke who wants something a bit different from the onslaught of 10 different hot hatches all from Germany / Spain / VAG has now Ford, Renault and now Shundai ! As they say in America.

I pray that this Korean car has good finance so that people in 2018 onwards can say they got a bargain and gloat when more reviews come out.

We need this to give variety for the good of the breed. I fear the VAG steamroller......

And I still don't understand why this class of car is the pick for fast hatches! Why isn't the Ford Focus RS not the Fiesta RS? I seriously don't get it. With hatches, unlike saloons, unlike sports cars, bigger has to be faster. Bonkers. Perhaps slightly off topic!
Not sure I agree with your reasoning here. Within most types of car, bigger is faster. M5 faster than M3, RS6 faster than RS4, the big Lambos are always faster than the small ones, and so on and so forth.

Compared to what in this sector? The red one below is the old Golf R thing, the blue one is the new kid on the block Seat Golf R, er, thing.

Actually due to colour blindness between red and blue I might have got these identical models mixed up?

I agree most cars have a "jelly mould" and are very similar nowadays, but I think it's far-fetched to say the Leon looks like a Golf. They share a platform but the shapes and details are quite different from all angles in my opinion.

I like this Hyundai, the swept-back shape more akin to a 1-series than the upright "square" golf. A 3-door pseudo-coupe would have been nice, but market feedback dictates that despite what us petrol heads think, the practical 5-door is the better seller by some margin.

I think they could've picked a much better launch colour, mind. But then most of the striking bright colours have been done recently:
Bright blue is the Focus RS,
Yellow belongs on a Megane or Focus ST
Red is for the Golf GTI and countless others..

Perhaps a lime green might have been a bit too ghastly for a first time hot hatch..

Can we stop describing a five door saloon as a 'hot hatch'? It isn't, same as Focus etc, etc,,,,, They are impressive saloons and not hot hatch's. It's marketing by manufacturers who make more money by converting existing '5' door cars rather then make a 3 door car which will always look better IMHO. 3 door = cool, 5 door = mumsies car with spoilers.
All power to them and they seem to have plenty, but hot hatches they ain't.

What on earth is a "five door saloon" (except for a contradiction in terms)?
