This company still run the classic sales process and make the sales lads feel like dirt, if you did a meet and greet and didn't get the customer inside you were a failure.... if you did get them in and no details you were abused.... if you went on a test drive and gained no commitment you were crap.... if you didn't sell a car you were sat down and talked to for an hour about where you went wrong.... if you did sell a car and didn't sell paint and gap that was another 30 min meeting..... was soul destroying and it literally got to a point where the salesmen would pretend to be on the phone or would hide to avoid customers in case they felt a bking could happen. places still run like this as well
Shops used to be like that 50 years ago.

Everyone? Everyone in an entire dealership ignores you.

You walk in, and nobody looks at you? Nobody says hello?

How many staff? Are they with customers?

I have never seen a customer purposely ignored in any car dealership I have been in, ever.
Literally not a word in three different dealers this afternoon, Birmingham and outskirts, all large marques.

All full of staff, some on the phone of course, but plenty literally standing talking amongst themselves.
I can believe it, because it's happened to me.

Me, the Mrs and my brother have all been in the market for a new car this last 18 months or so. All live in Birmingham.

The worst has got to be Mercedes Tamworth. We bought a few cars from them years ago and they were fab (I'm talking 20 years ago now) but the last visit last year with my brother, the receptionist was being chatted up by a salesman at her desk! Really weird. Wandered around their 3/4 cars (tiny, tiny place) and left bamboozled by the unwelcoming atmosphere.

Speaking of Tamworth, I went into Audi a few months back with my Mrs to look at a Q3 for her. Nobody said hi at the door...we found a Q3 in the showroom and she had a good look at it. We glanced at salespeople, as you do when you want them to come say hi...they all smiled back when I caught their eye then looked back to their phones or whatever they were doing. Incredible. My Mrs is a sales trainer and gets so angry with bad salespeople she refuses to buy from their businesses.

Sytner BMW are great everywhere in the West Midlands but Bham Central. I'd rather not service my car at all than get it done there...let alone ever buy anything from them.

I feel sorry for Mercedes central Brum; they are so busy, all the time. Busy dealing with time wasters and fantasists who look, speak and dress exactly the same as their actual current customers. I can't imagine what it's like working there!

The best experiences of all were had in Bentley and Ferrari. I've never been into their showrooms before let alone purchased one of their cars but they are both on the list for this time for myself. They were just fabulous guys to chat to and go through all the options with.

Yes being ignored is not acceptable, only time I have experienced this or seen it in action was when I first started in this industry and the salesmen who worked for this company were actually terrified of speaking to a customer sometimes incase they didn't sell a car they would get absolutely torn to pieces.

Sounds very much like any Pendragon dealer regardless of franchise.

The last place I worked at had a manager like that, a complete tosser who couldn't understand why everyone was always so down and morale was crap; ironically they went bust and the place I work for now, took over and they are now doing really well, fortunately the manager in question wasn't taken on.

I worked at that place for about 3 years and assumed that's how all dealers were.... I was wrong and glad to be out of that environment, imagine actually sometimes not wanting to talk to a customer in case you were shouted at for not selling a car. madness and a moral crusher

Unfortunately the management culture from the top of an organisation filters down pretty quickly-it takes a strong department manager who's been given a kicking not to go and dish that out the following morning to his ground staff. st rolls downhill, etc...

When my car is in for a service I always go for a wonder around the showroom to see what the latest models are like.

One of the sales guys always says hello, I explain my car is in for a service and I am just having a look and they say that they are over there if I need them and go back to whatever they are doing before.

Who fancies a go then?

Blackburn Audi are looking for a sales executive.

On target earnings of £50,000. Some staff work here six or seven days a week and earn more than that. A work colleague of mine used to work in another job with someone who now works there.

How do the public know?

I didn't actively try and get anyone's attention and I'm not going to pretend anyone missed out on selling a car as they haven't.
Yet a similar number of people get annoyed by being "jumped on" by every member of staff within 15 ft when they just want to be left alone and have a quiet browse.

A bloke on his own is often the least likely to be made contact with as they are very rarely buyers there and then. If they require assistance, they're also usually the first to make active contact.

Different brands and dealer groups have different policies on this, but generally there should be at least one attempt to make contact made within three minutes, if the customer hasn't initiated it within two.

Bloke alone, hands in pockets - classic "just lookers" wink
