Yep, This is me.

Salesmen spot i'm just having a browse so after a quick hello leave me to it.

If I come back with OH in tow then they take a bit more interest because there's probably a deal afoot.
Nothing wrong with that and Its the way I prefer to buy

Except the Mercedes dealers local to me, their just watch/shoe/attire judging pricks, I though that kind of thing was long gone?

I never take my wife car shopping, even when I'm buying her's. She has no interest whatsoever.
Bought my last three cars and her last two through internet enquiries at dealerships some distance away.
The dealers that answered my emails, got the business. Always agreed a px figure (usually after I send photos/details etc) beforehand. Turn up, paperwork signed, sorted .

Working night shifts, it's handy for me to be able to browse the net on a break and send 2 or 3 emails about cars I'm interested in. I include a time I'll be free for a call and job done. Never been an issue. I don't pursue those where a dealership can't be bothered to reply. If they can't be bothered to put some effort in selling it, what response an I going to get if something goes wrong.

Do you ever get people wanting weird specs? My local dealer has had a 4 Series Convertible in Estoril Blue with Coral Red leather, what's apparently known as Superman spec.

Do people sometimes want weird colour specs or large engines but low trim levels? Does it really affect used values or do you just go by the book price for the model regardless.

Colours Can sometimes play a bit part in the value of a car. for example we have proper kicked some customers in the balls recently for a certain colour type Gold - or Jewish racing gold as its known in the industry, we just know they don't sell well and it could still be here in 12 months time.

Doom blue never sells for us. Deep, dark navy always looks well when clean but we can't shift them for love nor money even when reduced to the cheapest by a long shot.

Estoril blue and Coral red does not actually sound that bad I like the name superman spec.

Manufacturers have to offer a "free" colour, they may as well make it the worst colour in the range so that people will pay to upgrade to a far nicer colour; metallic paint has a massive mark up, I've been told that it actually costs more to spray a car in the "free" colour than the cost option colours.

I have had customers refuse on principle to add a cost option colour as they don't feel that they should have to pay for a different colour, I think it's odd that someone will pay 10's of thousands on an item that they will see and be in, everyday and not spend a bit more on a more agreeable colour.

Doom blue is terrible, it just seems to attract scratches, very often a car in that colour will come off a transporter already covered in tiny scratches.

Paying extra for met paint is an interesting one. A nice colour - in and out, and I mourn the loss of interesting interiors on many cars - is important to me, but I do share the frustration that having spent my 10s of thousands, I then need to pay extra for metallic paint.

I could understand it in the olden days when life was in black and white, but metallic is ubiquitous and charging extra for it these days is a bit of a piss take. Paying more for wacky, individual colours is fair enough, but for normal fare it's not really cricket.

especially paying the full RRP of metallic on a 24/36m lease when it will enhance the residuals. A complete piss take.

I sold a Grand scenic in 2012, 1.6 Diesel (more expensive engine), with Bose pack and sunroof (I think anyway) and they wouldn’t pay for metallic.

Pacific Blue on a £20k+ Scenic. Mental.

And with MBFS. There are some chargable paint options, but the usual metallics are free

VW are bad for this - on a 3yr Tiguan lease the uplift was more than the whole cost of metallic.

Back when I had a company car, the monthly amount was less if you ran it through the configurator with a metallic rather than a solid as the residual was better.

I'm with them all the way smile Spend the money on stuff that makes a difference to YOU. Most cars, you simply can't tell if the outside is grey or pink once your in the driving seat. and if I was buying a Grand Scenic I probably wouldn't be spending any of my life admiring it from outside, regardless of colour.

What about white cars? I'm unsure if they're "a thing" because they're cheaper, or because people actually like them.
