If the identical and cheaper car was only 20 miles away, why wouldn't you enquire on that car and see if you can get a deal on it and save yourself more money?
Personally it will take me 5 minutes to get their and view the car with the wife, my mum, dad and brother have all bought from this dealership within the last year and the other car supermarket applies a purchase fee and apparently doesn't like it when you finance it yourself, if the dealership got within £500 of them I would be happy

What happens if the garage goes bust in the meantime? It's not un-heard of.

OK, he owns the car but it's surely not going to be straightforward to get hold of it.
Put a portion of the purchase on credit card so that it's covered by the consumer credit act (assuming the car is within the limits).

Reading the thread about “fully loaded” cars that generally aren’t. Has anyone ever sold a car where the customer really did order every conceivable optional extra?
I think so, I ordered a Mazda6 as a company car with Metallic Paint.
Pretty sure at the time that the only option you could have was metallic paint.

You want the winter pack, better stereo and bigger wheels? That'll be the next model up sir.

But I'm sure you didn't have such a crap example in mind when you wrote the question.

Fully loaded my hoop. I was doing some research to see how much mine might be worth with about 90% of possible options fitted when I came across the exact same model on AT and eBay with the dealer specifically saying that it had 'every option fitted.' Did it buggery, it had about half as many as the ones I had. I really don't know why people just blatantly lie like this, it's just such a waste of everyone's time.

I bought a 12 month old Focus from a main dealer a few years back. Said dealer then went bump between me paying for the car and collecting it.....the dealer was then taken over pretty much straight away by Ford, who didn't want to know about any previous debts.
Well of course they didn't. Would you buy a house and expect to be liable for the previous owners unpaid mortgage arrears ?

And that's why you should always pay the deposit by Credit Card. You then have Section 75 protection.

I see your point, but it was a large Ford main dealer, taken over by Ford themselves. They didn't even shut for a day to do it, just new name with new signs. Left a bad taste and put me off Fords and GAP !

The problem is these days most garages will not accepted credit cards for any amount,

How many buyers actually go for the extras that the salesperson pushes? We recently bought a 3 year old Yaris and the guy tried to add £1100 worth of Supagard, gap insurance, alloy insurance, stonechip insurance.

I'm really fed up with seeing the "amazing" Supagard demo, can't we, as buyers, just say no thanks before you even start, and save both our time.

on new cars I would say we have about a 30% success with supagard and about 40% gap success.

yes we often have customers say no to all. we do push it further

Gap insurance makes sense on a new car as the depreciation is so high over the first 3 years, but after that, I'm not convinced.

I agree, and certainly not at £399 like we charge.

Don’t know what level of garage you’re referring to but I’ve never had an issue paying deposits with a credit card.

On the last new car I thought we got a pretty good deal partly by using CarWow so when the sales guy started to go through all the add-ons I asked which was most important to him. He said Supagard so I told him I’d take it if he lost most of the cost in the deal, which he did, largely by doing f+r flaps free, not a trivial job to fit on Tiguan.

It's such a nuisance, until the Mini every car I'd bought was absolutely fine with a debit card - turn up, happy with car, card in the machine, enter PIN, job done. This time we had to faff about setting up bank transfers prior to arrival, etc etc. Quite frustrating.

I agree it is frustrating, but try to look at it from the dealerships point, we get charged on every debit or credit card transaction now so that's why a lot want bank transfers.

and seeing as we cant pass those charges on anymore we are not going to swallow the cost.

£1000 on a credit card for us, we will take anything on a debit card but actively discourage it now and push a transfer.

Our debit card charges alone last year were £19,000.00.
