As the owner of a new car I was unaware of the new tax rules. I assumed my 1.0 three cylinder, low emissions engine would have cheap tax. I should've known the government would move the goalposts when the money stopped rolling in! smash
As long as it's a "cheap" 1.0 three cylinder, low emissions engine, then the tax is the lower band of £140 vs £450 for an "expensive" 1.0 three cylinder, low emissions engine wink

Talking of Mustangs and Focus ST's. Do you ever get customers who suddenly stop and have a problem with the first year VED?
They’ll query it of course, and we get the odd idiot who despite us trying to educate them, will still go on about it, “I’m not paying 2 grand a year tax”, they don’t believe us when we tell them it doesn’t go down and that’s all they’re fixated on.

Out of all the Mustang “enquiries” we get, probably 10 percent are genuine, and these are the ones who don’t give a monkeys about the tax. If the situation arises where I’ve got a choice of the customer looking round the Mustang, or another looking at a Ka+, and I have to pick a customer to talk to, Ka people win every time

Probably explains why when I went into my local Ford dealership to do a bit of "mystery shopping", I was completely ignored when looking at the Mustang; not even any form of acknowledgement, TBF even when I've been in there looking at at a Focus I've been blanked too.

How's Vignale doing; be honest?!

I’ll be taking things on a slightly different path, and also giving some insight into an earlier posters question with regards to commission on products.

I’m a salesman at a BMW (Inchcape) franchise and I’m hating the path they’ve gone down. A commission change which isn’t unusual in itself, and as always they try and paint it as a positive thing (but it’s really not). They’ve also gone to split teams I.e New and used.

Basic has gone up to 21k from 15k but we’re no longer paid on GAP, Tyre & Alloy, Smart. The only item we’re paid on is GardX (£25 each no sliding scale).

The most we can earn on a car is £100 (if you hit your target) and we’re not paid on profit, no overage, pack car incentives. Literally makes no difference whether I sell an M4 CS, 760 Li or a stock 1 series in flat white.

Needless to say earnings have cut drastically, add to that the extremely long hours, working every weekend (well every other Sunday) and I’m actually contemplating changing industry.

Has anyone else done it, is the grass greener as a recruitment consultant or estate agent lol?

P.S Do any other sales execs on here have to do an arbitrary number of citnows per day?! Used properly they can be a powerful tool, but when you have a sales manager on your back “done your citnows” and you end up just doing random ones it becomes pointless and annoying.

Thats sending out a message out they dont want "sales" people, or if they do they dont want to pay for it....be very interesting to see how that pans out......they may as well bin the commission and pay £30K a year, some people would be happy with that.

Good sales people back in the early 90s were earning 35-40K off a 6K basic selling BMW's!
In the early 90’s pretty much every BMW sold in this country was built to order, there was no such thing as a ‘stock car’, the annual target was usually done by November, and there was no chance of any kind of discount.

The market has changed immeasurably since then for multiple reasons, so the remuneration model has had to evolve with it.

The vast majority of our "leads" come through saying that they only want to be contacted by e-mail so I don't really see the benefit.

I don't know if it's the same software but I was mincing around on an oak furniture website once but binned the order because I just couldn't be arsed. Five minutes later I get a phone call (which I ignored as it was an unknown number, never answer them) which turned out to be the furniture company. They rang me every fecking day for five days before I realised I could block the number on my iDog. What a pain in the arse.

From what we can gather, the customer makes an enquiry on the manufacturers website, this enquiry is instantly picked up by "Calldrip" and put through to the relevant/local dealer by phone so the enquirer is contacted by phone by a representative of the dealer within seconds; whilst they are still on the manufacturers website.

We have been told that the speed of the response is key, apparently research has shown that consumers now want instant responses; the quicker the response, the more likely an appointment, which is more likely to lead to a sale, our issue is:

  • The vast majority of electronic enquiries specify e-mail contact only; no phone calls, therefore "Calldrip" is no benefit.
  • Many electronic enquiries are made out of normal operating hours; many being made in the early hours, so if a phone call is allowed then it won't happen until opening, thus losing the instant response, therefore "Calldrip" is no benefit.
We are sceptical, particularly when we have it rammed down our throats that electronic communication is the way forward; surely this makes telephone communication redundant!

I'm having a bit of difficulty with my new car purchase. I signed paperwork on 29 March to get dealer deposit contribution and was told it would be delivered within ten days. It was meant to be ready last weekend and wasn't, is now day fifteen and was told it was arriving today and meant to be picking up the car on Sunday but now been told it won't arrive till Monday so I can't pick it up until next weekend (As I work Monday to Friday). I also didn't realize I was paying my PCP from 29 March not from the day I pick up the car. Salesman is speaking to manager about compensation. What's the best I can expect? What should I push for? I want to be refunded pro rata for the number of days between 29 March and the day I finally pick up my car.

Do you know for certain that the agreement is live? If so, have you tried speaking to the finance company to explain that you haven't actually received the goods yet? They may still be able to defer the agreement start date and therefore the first monthly payment and the date on which the agreement ends.

If they can't do that, does the dealer have a car, not necessarily a 124, that you can use in order that you have at least got a newish car for the time that you are paying for.

If none of the above then might just have to suck it up. Sounds like the dealer is genuinely as frustrated as you are, but if the car hasn't arrived then it hasn't arrived. Remember the thread about the guy with his Audi A3? smile

I think you should ask for them to pay your first payment, that's a fair deal overall.

no one loses out then.

All this juggling about registering cars before they have arrived does my head in, invariably there is a problem one (as detailed above), it is probably nothing to do with a deposit contribution only being valid in a certain Q; more likely the registration target.

Cars should not be able to be registered until they are at the dealer.

Agreement is live, yes. The finance company is Fiat themselves (well their finance arm) which makes it even more annoying! I am waiting on the proposal from the sales manager (who is a remarkably difficult man to pin down).

Annoyingly I am in Glasgow and the dealer is in Newcastle and I am in Newcastle this weekend anyway ... so now I'm going to have to make a second trip (plus work out how I'm getting home from Newcastle at short notice). I think a loan car for the week and a contribution to my first payment is fair.
