Question on factory fit options - how much do they actually add to the selling price of a used car when on a dealer forecourt?
Are we buying or selling?

I'd imagine if trading in they aren't worth anything but if the dealer is selling they add thousands! wink

Ok, one for the salesmen, not for us non sales people to give our perception....

... There is a move away from new diesel cars for purchasers. Are you seeing that same move away from used diesels?

not sure what the poster above finds so funny?
....that someone would part with £46k for a two year old diesel with 42,000 miles. Seriously, how could anyone do that. No matter what it is.
Why? If this a 90k RR or Cayenne etc then it’s half the price after 2 years. You suggest 40k miles is a lot? Seriously? That’s hardly run in on a large premium diesel. Do you consider a car junk once it’s got to 30k miles?
There are plenty of £60 Bentley GTs for sale with 50k miles on them, the idiots that buy them must be mental, petrol engines as well!

All these headlines about demand for diesel being in freefall, can anyone substantiate that being reflected in a drop in values?

Can anyone with access to a more sophisticated CAP subscription provide the following info?

CAP Clean in May 2017 for a 14 plate Diesel car with 40k miles and CAP Clean in May 2018 for the same car as a 15 plate with 40k

As suggestions to cover a range of the market, say an A3 1.6 TDI S-line manual, 320d M Sport Auto and E350CDI AMG.

But if you know of any others that illustrate a drop in values then feel free to substitute.
As someone who bought a car two years ago (for the wife) and a year ago (for me), looking again now they don't seem to have reduced the GMV at 3 years on PCP deals. Leases haven't rocketed either. That suggests that the finance houses aren't overly concerned at the moment.
Thanks. That's another way to gauge the reality of the situation that I hadn't thought of.

Yes and no.

Finding petrol stuff a lot easier to sell so stocking more of it, it just saves having to have the discussion about diesel woes, plus they're far more reliable/cheaper to recon and warranty usually.

Get plenty of tyre kickers in wanting to chat about how bad it all is and say they're looking for a petrol XXX but they're rarely buyers of cars and if you show them a petrol Kuga as requested they just moan about MPG & tax.

One thing it does seem to be doing is knocking peoples confidence when it comes to making a purchasing decision, everyone seems scared of spending a pound the last couple of months.

Grant 8064 has hit the nail on the head.
Plenty of umms and arghs about buying a diesel, but when you show them the petrol equivalent, which is normally quite a bit cheaper on many cars, they then moan about the MPG and bloody road tax!
'Whats the road tax on this one?'
'Unavoidable' is the normal shrift answer.

Nope. No matter how hard I try, I cannot conceive of buying a 42k mile, two year old, six cylinder 3 litre diesel for £46k. To be fair, I also cannot conceive of paying £90k for a brand new six cylinder 3 litre diesel. A V8 diesel maybe. At a push. But even then, not when there is a V8 (esp supercharged) petrol option available.....

I suspect that no one here is the slightest bit interested in what you would or wouldn't buy in your own perfect, little world.

I need to get a V8 crossed off my list, spending £500 + per year on a 10k XFR seems reasonable, I'm also considering a large estate car while I remodel our back garden, spending £500 + on a cheap saab 9-5 estate sub £1500 doesn't seem so appealing. Maybe its about time the govt re-evaulated RFL for older cars.

+1 Shame the site knobbers don't have their own little sanctimonious thread where they can bleat at each other.

Apologies. For years i've stupidly been under the misapprehention that this was a discussion forum where people shared their thoughts / ideas / preferences. Thanks for pointing out where i've been going wrong.

I'll be sure to keep any future posts factual and keep any personal opinion to myself.

PS diesels are crap. D'ohhhh. Sorry. Failed already..

I thought this particular thread was to specifically ask salesmen questions and get their opinion, not a general discussion thread?

Has anyone experience of taking an order for a new, factory order car which was to a colour or other spec which made you politely ask the customer if they were absolutely certain?

An oyster grey Captur with orange wheels, orange roof, orange exterior pack and interior packs. Had to triple check it and a £1000 deposit. Awful colour combo.

Only ever seen one like that in real life, it still haunts me!
