Ask a car salesman anything...anything at all.

Of course it depends on how long they've had it in stock and how much it does owe them, but yes it's a bit of a specialist vehicle!
If it's on auto trader you'd perhaps be able to see how ling it's been up from the URL, might give you an idea. I didn't realise that was possible
It's been in stock about 3 and a half weeks if the Autotrader link is anything to go by.
I've spoken with the garage but we hit a stumbling block, the Volvo website suggests all S80's >15 onwards with On Call fitted should be capable of remote start. The garage are saying they think this is wrong.
If it's wrong, and it's not possible on any S80, then there's no need for me to chase this particular car so I'd probably back off unless they did an amazing deal. Hopefully should know more tomorrow when Volvo HQ are open and we're able to check with them directly.

Full remote start is illegal in the EU/UK.
The blurb will be referring to US spec cars I presume.
My mate`s standard UK S90 has remote start from the app. That`s what finally tipped me over the edge into wanting a replacement car. Legal or not, Volvo definitely supply it.The blurb will be referring to US spec cars I presume.

I've juts bought a used RRS and it has remote engine start on it (via app as above), rather spiffy feature on these cold mornings. The blurb will be referring to US spec cars I presume.
Lovely

Certainly not standard on all. Mrs SB's 65' plate Discovery Sport didn't have it.
InControl Remote was standard on them all. That enabled you to lock the car via the App, see the trip computer data, recent journeys and last parked location. The remote start was standard on all autos but obviously not available with manual transmission.Have you got both the auto box and the InControl Remote app? Subscription was included in vehicle price for the first 3 years. Anyone know what they are charging to continue?

Is it a diesel? Would work OK if it also had a deisel powered aux heater (the Webasto type thing) but they're generally not fitted to UK cars which instead rely on electric booster heaters - but they take so much current they don't usually work unless the car is moving. Left my wife's new Tiguan for 20 mins the other morning and the car was still frozen. But a few hundred yards of driving will have it blowing warm air. My older Merc is the same.

In the UK, Rule 123 of the Highway Code says "You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road."https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/gener...
I think it's still fair game to use a remote start app if the car is on your driveway (i.e. not on a public road). I'd definitely like to have this feature on my next car.

To say it's been slow going would be an understatement.
Despite the Volvo site saying the car can do it, the dealer weren't convinced. In the end they spoke with the Volvo technical team who said it *can* do it, subject to a software upgrade. They're bringing the car across from their other branch to the dealership I'm dealing with to test it themselves.
We haven't even got around to talking numbers yet... Car is up at £3,600 above book trade price and has been in stock about 4 weeks.
Spec is excellent, better than most, but colour combo of white paint/cream leather is a bit polarising for most Volvo buyers I'd imagine.
Looking around online I'm struggling to find much to compare it with like-for-like.
TLDR - I know this is asking how long is a piece of string, but is a pre-costs margin of £3,600 on a £14K car the norm these days at a main dealer? It seems steeper than I remember it when I was in the trade at a main dealer. I was thinking £13K was a more realistic offer, especially in what is a dead month that will see the car stuck there into the new year.
I'd like to think there's significant wiggle room in the price, given the fact that I know it's going to be wedged sideways up my arse at resale time and in my opinion, £2,400 is a more realistic margin than £3,600.
ETA - Yes, I know it's an assumption that the dealer paid book price, it maybe more, maybe less.

Yeah it all adds up, I realise that. I appreciate I've not done it for just over 10 years, but back then we'd have been lucky to have had £2,000 across a car at this price, it was often less. We still managed to warrant them, prep them, and pay a miserly commission. Maybe I have some of my rose tinted glasses on....Prep

We'll find out tomorrow I guess, because stretching myself to £14K for a car which I know is not "perfect", but merely, the best one I can find at this precise moment simply won't be happening! Hopefully we can meet on something that we're both happy with
Deal is done!
Settled on £500 off asking, and roughly top book on my part-ex.
Apparently their car was bought from a Volvo dealer only auction, no idea whether this means they may have paid above, or below book price for it, but the refurb bill so far is £1,100 and it'll need another tyre putting on because they found a chunk missing. Salesman confirmed it'll be a matching Goodyear and not a budget that goes on it. It comes with 1 years full warranty, and by the sounds of things it's immaculate.
I'd have probably felt a touch more comfy at £13,250, but if the refurb really has cost just over £1K, and if they paid anything over book for it, then it's probably not a bad deal overall.
What helped swing it was the salesman taking it home and letting it do a software update for 3 HOURS to find out that despite the product genius saying no, and Volvo saying no, the internet was right and it does do remote start!!
Thanks to those that helped. I'm looking forward to picking it up!
