If buying a used car, and they do this to get an indication of value for your old one, try asking them to put into WBAC the details of the car you are buying too. That should cause some excitement...
Then remember you need to add prep costs, warranty, overheads, VAT, profit and realise that you're being silly...If you are in the trade, try a few for us based on cars you have for sale and let us know what the price difference was.
I got a WBAC quote for a car I was px ing. It was £18,500. I px'd for £21,000. The dealer then put it up at £27,995...

Well, that depends on the differential between the WBAC price and the sticker price.

Did the dealer actually sell it for £27,995.?
What did they have to spend on it?
Don't tell me, it was "mint, straight on the forecourt"?

Did he sell it for 27,995? I sole my Fiat Spider to a car supermarket for 12,900 and it went straight up for 15,900. Last I checked it was up for 13,500 (evans halshaw no longer seem to have a spider section on their website for me to check today, weird)If you are in the trade, try a few for us based on cars you have for sale and let us know what the price difference was.

Sadly I don't have time, I'm too busy asking Waitrose why they make money out of me on their lasagne

Firstly, so you got an offer £2500 more from the dealer than WBAC?
So what's your point?
Secondly, presumably you were happy with this offer or you wouldn't have accepted it, right?
Thirdly, if its that simple, why did you not sell it yourself?
2012 Jaguar XK Portfolio. 50,000 miles and, yes, it was mint. Genuinely. They literally only needed to wash it and wheel it into the showroom. There wasn't a single mark on it and i'd had new tyres a month earlier.
No, I don't know what they actually sold it for but it wasn't there for long....
Yes, I was happy with the deal. I was happy with the £21,000 of figure. I'd have been less happy had they simply said £18,500 as per WBAC. Which is the whole point.
I expected to see it up at £25,000 so to see it up at £28,000 was a surprise given that I paid that for it 12 months and 12,000 miles earlier. I'd bought it unseen and travelled 300 miles to collect. I'd been told it was mint and when I got there the car was, if anything, better than I expected. It was a beautiful thing.

I think that's a great example of you having a car which was of interest to the dealer as a retail proposition, and by using other valuation tools as well as / instead of just WBAC they offered you a price that was attractive to both parties.loskie said:
why can't Arnold Clark affix their number plates on straight?
Why does Arnold Clark stick their rear window sticker on the EXTERIOR of the car?
Oh go on then why TF do folks use Arnold Clark at all?
It really puts me off buying from a garage when I see dealer-branded plates on the piss! Why does Arnold Clark stick their rear window sticker on the EXTERIOR of the car?
