I'd be a very simple process for someone in Delhi to have access to the dealers working schedule, appointments and so on.

What’s the rarest/most unusual/most surprising car you’ve taken in part exchange?

Has anyone tried to part exchange anything other than a car (I’m not talking xboxes, I mean planes, trains, helicopters, partners etc)

Thanks Butter Face & Fast Bug

It will be mainly light goods vehicles but also some cars.

It's still in the early stages of being worked out but it's linked to a certain policy that is being introduced in various towns and cities in the near future (which you can probably guess) but obviously can't say too much more on a public forum.

Thanks. She's interested in 0% finance as she still has a year to go on her current PCP. She liked the first Up! she had, a dark blue one, but she was persuaded into taking out a PCP when she intended to buy it outright. When it came to the end of the PCP she saw an ad for "new" Volkswagen Ups at a discount and thought it meant the new model that had just been launched.

She configured one in Costa Azule with a black roof, blue seats and diamond cut alloys that have since been discontinued. She went along to the dealership and found the offer was on old model stock and the options were red, white or black. Rather than paying out to keep the car she had, she started a new PCP on the black one which was a compromise and she's had the idea of a Costa Azule one in her head since.

She saw these Costa Azule ones in the Preston dealership with 0% finance stickers on them, looked them up online and saw the discounted price on Auto Trader, so she thought it made sense to get one and pay on a PCP over a few years without paying interest. She's decided that if she has to pay list price she may as well order exactly what she wants from her nearest dealership. She doesn't need to pay a premium for 5 doors, doesn't want the smartphone interface and would rather have blue seats than black.

She's not that fussed about changing her car yet if she can't get a good deal, but I have pointed out there's no guarantee there'll be a 0% finance offer when she comes to the end of her PCP.

Will a factory ordered car still be on the 0% finance offer or does it only extend to cars available right now?

Have the High Up! and Up! GTi been dropped or are they just not available at the moment due to WLTP testing of the 2020 models and suchlike?
The offer is on cars proposed at a certain point, if you have to wait for a factory order t it won’t be effected. Either way we have the same amount of margin, regardless of finance options.

The High Up! And GTI have been removed due to the emissions testing under RDE etc but there is no date for when they will return for production.

PM me if you want to discuss further, I would be happy to help get a deal for her though on a factory order if required.

How can you take off a private plate and sell a car in the shortest time as I have a buyer wanting to come on Saturday and drive away but DVLA say 4-6 weeks for V5 so how could he tax vehicle?
I took a plate off my wife’s car a couple of weeks ago.
Did it on line at 9am on a Wednesday. New V5 arrived in post on the Friday.

Agreed - it's all online now. Sure you wait a couple of days for the V5 to come back, but the '4-6 weeks' DVLA times are worst case, and stem from the days when you had to post the documents to them (right after they closed all the local DVLA offices).
Do it online now, and chances are you will have the V5 back on Fri or Sat. Any particular reason why you've waited until the last minute if you're selling the car?

CVs and cars will usually be dealt with by different parts of the business, for a given manufacturer.

I went to the other side of the country to buy a car last year, agreed a price on condition that I could take the car there and then. Seller wanted to keep the plate so I simply did the transfer after I got the car home and sent the retention certificate off to him. Very straightforward.

That's fine provided the seller trusts the buyer to send the retention certificate, which he obviously did with good cause in your case.

There is a risk that the seller could lose the right to the number if the buyer turns out not to be true to his word.

Trust that no one was hurt and that as part of a large plc nobody's jobs are compromised because of it.

I wonder if the fire happened to break out amid any overaged vehicle stock, obsolete parts or FCA records? smile

Anyone planning on picking up their 69 plate car from there today?

Do dealers still do HP or is everything PCP for the margins?

I'm bored with my current car (C30 D5, great car, just leaves me cold) and am looking for something small, cheap and fun to drive that can be insured in 18 months by a new driver but I can't convince myself that PCP is the way to go.

They still do it but PCP seems to be the route most go down. It’s not perfect / the be all and end all but it can work.

It does on my case but may not in others.

PCP is HP but with a different payment profile, and the option to hand the car back without completing the purchase.

HP is the better bet as there will be less interest charged, assuming the same APR, term, deposit, etc.

There is now a third way ( ok, fourth if you count cash)

Been looking at Land Rover Discovery sport and Skoda Kodiaq. Both dealers I have been to seem keen to offer a discount. Skoda 16%, would it be reasonable to expect a similar amount on a Discovery Sport ?

Depends on the margins LR have. Your best bet would be to look at car wow or similar and see what's on offer

Thanks, had a look on CarWow. Is that generally a good indicator of what's available ?

I'm led to believe that LR aren't that hot on discounting. I got 5% off my MY19 RRS and am led to believe by colleagues and a friend that this was a good deal.

They can't give too much off as they need to keep a massive chunk back to fix the inevitable problems for the next 3 years!
