however the basic salary is my main concern
As others have said. It shouldn't be.If you're only earning the basic, you won't be doing the job long enough to worry about it
OTE should be £35+ in any main dealer, what you earn depends on commitment, experience, practice etc etc.

Forgive me if this has already been covered somewhere in the previous 460 pages...
Would a non-franchised dealer be more open to haggling with an offer of PX + cash, or just cash?
I suspect it's the former (cash is supposedly no longer 'king'), but thought I'd check with people more experienced in such matters...
Oh and it's for a £28k car, with my PX being valued at ca. £14k by WBAC... in case that helps.
It really does depend on the total deal. A low part ex but a bit off the screen price may stack up better on the dealers books. It's the total cost to change you need to look at. Would a non-franchised dealer be more open to haggling with an offer of PX + cash, or just cash?

I'm in the process of buying an AMG merc from a specialist dealer. WBAC on my current car (RS6) was 3k lower than the part ex I negotiated but is likely similar to the deal id have got overall if id give in with cash. If the dealer is likely to want your part ex on his or her forecourt then you'll do better than if they just punt it out to trade.
Im mates with the SM at local Toyota dealership.
Whilst many car dealerships have stock taking root - he can't sell the Toyota hybrids quick enough. Absolutely flying off the shelves.
How are things on the ground in the used car world - are the diesels dead, petrol now more desirable than Derv and everyone wanting a used Leaf?

Since returning after (ridiculously short) Xmas break, we have been flying.Whilst many car dealerships have stock taking root - he can't sell the Toyota hybrids quick enough. Absolutely flying off the shelves.

Record January, and February looking set to follow suit.
We have taken to increasing prices and selling cars at over CAP retail money, as we simply cannot get enough stock quickly enough.
I sold 4 on Friday, and same on Saturday alone .
Now puts us on 27 or so for the month so far, and a week to go yet.

So, the cars you have sold - how do they relate to my initial question? Are they more petrol/hybrid or is diesel still buoyant?
Is there a particular price point that is working?
Ive been looking at F10 M5's again over the last few months and the same stuff is still for sale and gradually getting cheaper for example

Diesel for us has pretty much died, we don't do a hybrid yet but it is coming but likely to be expensive vs straight ICE, new ZOE is doing phenomenally well for us, unlike Butter Face, ours are PCP or outright purchase and new Captur is flying off the shelves too.

Have you looked at the 24m contact hire deal? It’s really strong on the GT line. Done 3 this month!Edited by HTP99 on Sunday 23 February 20:12

A neighbour of mine has ordered a new kitchen and said the showroom was packed with lots of people buying. I think the election and Brexit has made people perceive that it's OK to make large purchases now when they weren't sure before, whatever the reality of the situation.
I got a cheap deal on a BMW in an empty showroom before Christmas. It was packed just after new year when I collected it.
