A neighbour of mine has ordered a new kitchen and said the showroom was packed with lots of people buying. I think the election and Brexit has made people perceive that it's OK to make large purchases now when they weren't sure before, whatever the reality of the situation.

I got a cheap deal on a BMW in an empty showroom before Christmas. It was packed just after new year when I collected it.
Yep, everyone I'm speaking to (even the guy who did my tattoo a couple of weeks ago) has said it's like a tap has been turned on and on full.

The general view is that with the election and Brexit, no matter one's views, we know what's happening now so can move on.

Are people doing a lot of handovers of 20 reg cars tomorrow?

Have there been a lot of orders of them?

Is it going to be difficult with 1st March falling on a Sunday when dealerships would normally be open shorter hours, or not at all.

We don't do handovers on a Sunday, so nope, none tomorrow.

Our March handovers are spread over the month like any normal month, we have one on Monday and that's it, the majority will be towards the end as that is when they are arriving.

There is no longer this mad rush for everyone wanting a new plate, half don't understand it and many don't care.

PCP question. I don't know who the finance co is yet but my missus just got rejected for 0% APR and they've offered 4% over the term instead. Is this common? She's got a flawless credit record but has only been registered as a resident in the UK for 2 years as we live here and in Sweden as well but she now works in the UK full time, hence the need for a new car as she keeps using mine! I am going to do the finance for her instead to get 0% but I was a bit shocked she didn't get it, do they search manually or is it a computer says no type thing?

Can any of you more mature salesmen remember the A plate issue (1983/4 ) ?

I can remember seeing loads of new plate cars in the first few days , I always wondered if back in the day that gave a real boost in sales ?

It could be bks, but I remember someone telling me the reason they changed to 2 plate issues a year was so that the sales were spread more evenly as people would wait to get the new reg... I remember when my dad got a new 5 series and he had to keep it in the garage for a few days as he picked it up before the cars moved from F to G reg.

Or manufacturers finance company won't entertain unless there is at least 3 years trace in the UK.

I've got 6 out tomorrow, 4 Dusters and 2 Clio. I'll be in from 8am to get cracking so I can try and sell stuff too.

The guy couldn't tell me but I just got approved, I just found it a bit strange as I thought we'd be financially linked as I added her name to all the bills and we have a joint current account. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but that's a third V5 in my name in a couple of weeks now laugh

It was hell. Quite literally delivering between a third and half of the years sales on one day, it was beyond stupid. PDI's weren't done, valets were nothing more than getting the wax off and unwrapping the seats, the standards were appaling, 10 minute delivery slots, back of house staff doing deliveries (office staff, mechanics, valeters, drivers). It was the worst possible of everything for everyone. Standard response for any grumbles was "Well what do you expect!" Folks loved it and would come back another day for a PDI and proper valet and to have all the snagging faults done. I worked for a small family Austin Rover dealer, 180 cars when the prefix came out (just two of us in sales) nowhere to put the damn things either, cars would even be left in the surrounding streets, so it was good to predeliver to folks drives weeks in advance.

Interesting. Would people pay more to have an early in the day handover slot? Used to love new reg day when I was a child, "oooh look, an L plate!!!" etc etc

I too remember the big August 1 events

I never went to any of the parties or actually picked up at midnight but I did have 2 'First Day Covers'

1980 Fiesta 1300 Ghia...picked up late afternoon

1991 Rover 214SLi...delivered the day before...masking tape over the number plates...on trade plates

My missus got a new Clio, S Reg, in Aug 1998 and the dealer would only let us pick it up either at midnight, or after 4PM, as their orders were to sell cars, not be doing handovers, on the 1st. As we had young kids, neither was convenient, so they delivered it a couple of days before. One thing I expected an issue with was insurance, but it was no problem, they just stressed we couldn't drive it until the first.

It does stick in my mind that we went into a biggish VW dealer on the first Sunday in March a few years ago and I expected it to be mad. Over the couple of hours it took to buy a car we were the only people in there.

I personally don’t think the registration plate thing is a big deal anymore.

I don’t know anyone that cares about it anyway
