Is that because you've never driven one or simply because you're a dick?
Was there really any need for that comment?I was merely making a compliment to the car of which you have misread and decided to post an offensive remark.
You might want to rethink before posting something small minded in future.

It's mine tomorrow. I've had almost 40 cars, driven loads of new st but nothing can touch these. Best car in the world. I'll update tmrw when I get home!
You won't regret it! After nearly three years with a D Turbo, I replaced it with a GTI-6 in May. The reason being that I've always wanted one, so I thought I'd get one while they were still affordable!
Mine's an 1998/S phase 2 in black. Was on 128k, 5 or 6 owners, four new tyres and just had a cam belt change. Scuff on front bumper, a few minor dings, and the obligatory worn driver's seat bolster, but generally pretty tidy for a near-20-year-old car. Paid £1,200 for it. Didn't want to pay more for a minter as I'd be using the car every day.
Done 7k miles in it so far. A couple of weeks ago it was idling a bit higher than usual but did it for one day and has been normal since. Similar for the electric windows which decided not to work for a couple of days during a heatwave in the summer, but have been fine ever since. Aside from that it has been trouble-free.
Most of my driving in it is commuting, and it rides far better than most new cars and the seats are great. I feared the close-ratio 'box would make commuting a pain in the arse, but in normal driving I often find myself changing up two gears at a time.
As everybody says, the best bit is the way it handles. The combination of pace and smoothness with which it can be hustled down an undulating, pot-holed B-road puts almost every other car to shame. If you really push it, it can snap into lift-off over steer, but it won't do that unless you are on the limit. Must admit I did st myself the first time it happened.
The engine in it is great as well and really suits the car. Surprisingly flexible for an old non-turbo petrol. Quite happily bumbling along in sixth most of the time. I average 36mpg in mine. Addictive when you open it up as well. Sounds good for a four-pot, and whilst not fast by modern standards, still more than quick enough!
All in all it's the best car I've owned. I use it every day and I'm not bored of it yet and don't think I will be for some time. Forgot to mention but I love the way it looks as well. Peugeot just seemed to get everything right with the 306.

Really happy to read how well regarded these things are.
I've owned 3x 306's... 2 Dturbo's (1.9 XUD and 2.0 hdi respectively) as my first / second cars when insurance and running costs were important... then after a spell in a E46 330ci wanted to bank some money and there was little choice but a GTi6 - mine is a late 2000/X in China blue just like this one that I've had since 2012.
Sold it once to a family member to swap for a 9-3 Aero which wasn't an appropriate replacement and now have it back... plan was to strip it into a fast road / track day car, but I just can't do it - seems a shame to ruin one of the last Phase 3 versions as I do think they will become somewhat sought after.
If anybody's interested let me know... it's done 117k but remains in good condition (not without a few scratches and the odd car park dink plus the usual non functioning AC) but not too nice you don't want to use it as Peugeot intended.
If I had the space I'd keep it as a weekend car as - but I don't have the ability and want an E92 330i that better fits me at 6'3" - would really like it to go to an enthusiast.

Forgotten how this car managed to keep the design, though lengthened, of the 205 from the side view
What's a 309GTI worth nowadays ?
Anywhere between 2 and 9k depending on condition, exceptional ones are worth 11k+ but those are very very very rare (Goodwoods hold the best value but I personally prefer the phase 1's).What's a 309GTI worth nowadays ?
Good on the guy who's bought this, have owned 3 306 GTI-6's, 2 nearly new and 1 with 85k on the clock, phase 1's look better than the 2's and 3's imho, and they are all fun to drive but suffer with the good old looms between the doors (not a hard fix but time consuming).
0-62 was quoted at 8.5 by Peugeot but every test usually got around 7.5 or slightly less, Peugeot's reply to the somewhat interesting 0-62mph time is that its a time achievable by all drivers, 7.5 is a little harder to do. Fair play for that one.
Still, as a shed its a good buy, its not quite in the same league as my latest performance Pug which handles better, better economy, far better build quality and even more fun
I've driven a few of both but not owned either - I'm really not sure how you'd put a 306 over a 205 in terms of pure driving fun tho.
The 306 is a FAR more complete car - it's roomier, comfier and has more toys - it's also quicker outright BUT the 205 lacks all the stodge they put between the driver and the car.
205s largely lack PAS (the few which have it are generally shunned as the system was a bit st) which means it feels like you're turning the wheels, not just suggesting they turn themselves - 205s also have the best gearshift I've every used and tighter suspension.
205s are also - ironically - a bit roomier/comfier if you're taller - the 306's wheel is mounted in an odd place and has limited adjustment which means I've never really been comfortable in one
Both are great cars but I'd take a 205 as a driving tool EONS before the 306 - their values kinda reflect this too
p.s. one other thing to be aware of is that a lot of 306s had that stupid keypad immobiliser which may or may not have been hacked around/may or may not still work/may or may not strand you from time-to-time ;0 One other thing 205s had was 'less electronic st to break' ;0

Had a look at the old 309Gtis for sale and they're still cheap compared to the 205s
That's half the reason I got one back in the 90s, cheaper than a comparable 205 1.9, the other half of it was that it genuinely felt a better car to steer. I'd been all set to get a 205 before I had a go in the local dealer's 309 demo
Good shed, I've had a 2.0 petrol 406 loan car of similar vintage this week whilst my focus was having its clutch replaced and I was very surprised by how well it handled (I'd say it was just as good if not better than the original focus), so can imagine these are a lot of fun with 25 extra horses, a lighter bodyshell and a 6th gear.
Well.....5 hour round trip and I'm home empty handed
I was looking for an investment more than anything and something to take out on a Sunday morning. My OCD would have probably drained another £1500 to £2000 to get it back in tip top condition, I can't justify that on a 3rd car so disappointingly I left it there.
Still on the lookout, would actually prefer a mint Rallye. If anyone knows of any for sale please let me know, I still need to re scratch that itch!!

My high expectations really. Car pulled like a train, lovely experience after 9 years in diesels. I'm a perfectionist though and don't have the time or skills to get it how I want.
I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to hinder the sale as the seller was a nice lad. If I was a little more practical with more time on my hands I would have taken a punt but head over heart decision won
I need a mint black rallye for no more than 2 grand, I know there's 1 somewhere but I'd probably stand in rocking horse st first!!

Why are you wasting his and your time looking at a 20 year old car then?I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to hinder the sale as the seller was a nice lad. If I was a little more practical with more time on my hands I would have taken a punt but head over heart decision won
