Has an LS400 ever graced a barge meet?
I've missed one barge meet/Losers Conference, but I haven't seen one. I would like to have a good look and play with one. Any chance an owner can come along next weekend?
wavey

A flying visit sadly: just an hour or so in the morning for a cuppa and a tyre kick. Very unexpected passout in any case, as it spares me assisting with preparations for 5yo's birthday party in the afternoon, but that followed by Ceebeebies Hotel means she probably recognises I have to have some sanity over the weekend and may just prevent me from punching an Octonaut.

A very good friend of mine came down to visit us from near Dunfermline for a night yesterday in the 535d Touring (E61) that he's just bought for a little bit over thread budget. Truly low condition and well-maintained blah blah...but...

Mein Gott! eekeek

I've never owned a diesel car myself of any description so I didn't expect it could do that!

I think know what barge I'm buying next if I decide to sell either the E38 or my wife's E39.
A friend of mine has a 2008 e60 saloon 535d, slightly breathed upon, nothing much, injectors, tune and DPF-delete and I reckon it would leave my e39 M5 in a cloud of black smoke at any speed quite easily, it's bloody fast, not quick, it's properly fast, seen 180 mph on the speedo and gps multipe times. Even sounds rather nice in a fast and the furious, turbo whistly kind of way. Fully specced aswell, M-sport, nappa comforts, hud, individual killer stereo etc. If you drive it like you stole it it'll still return 29 mpg. Still don't want one,
Yeah, he's talking about having some kind re-map done on it too. It didn't really feel like it needed it too me. And he too had an E39 M5 until recently.
The only thing I cautioned him over was that a few years a chap I knew had a 335d Saloon that he had similarly re-mapped and he found that possibly because of the lack of an LSD (?) it became almost undriveable. There was just so much torque that it would just constantly break traction at the drop of hat. He ended up putting it back to its original map.

Speaking of the barge meet - the 760 is still spluttering & refusing to give me a fault I can actually find - it’s now time to get it to a specialist. frown

This therefore means I’ll be coming in the M6. It’s a different sort of barge. biglaugh It’s Interlagos Blue, so it’s relatively unsubtle & should be easy to spot!

Looking on maps, might I suggest the far end of Anson Rd / Lysander Ave junction as the place to be? (I.e. furthest away from museum building, and far end from the ‘plane). (My OCD means I always need to know/do stuff like this - sorry!)

Secondly, and most importantly that Lex(!) is verging on magnificent, non? Lovely colours, gold badges for the win, and an interior that, whilst ticking various different shades and colours, avoids hearing aid cream. I haven't done any due diligence - natch, why change the habits of a lifetime - but that looks a cracking buy to me.

It does look rather smart doesn't it. The DHP's make the car: no wheel sits as nicely on the Mk3/4 LS.
That looks absolutely magnificent. For £1650 before a haggle that seems obscene value.

I've only been once before, but seems sensible to congregate far away from the museum so we don't have to share space with non-losers.

If the weather is reasonable (forecast suggests it may be) I'll bring the A124; if it's foul I'll bring the (diesel!) CLS - it will be its last barge meet as it's going, having been displaced by a wholly non-barge thread purchase.

Good idea to have a space to aim for - let's park at the end of the car park furthest from the museum. I think the cafe entrance will be the closest 'shop front' ahead of us, with the two museum buildings to our left.

A reminder to anyone that hasn't been there before, that you need to follow signs to the museum, which follows the road towards and then beyond the entrance to the RAF base. I'll aim to be there around 1000-1015 hrs.

The address is: Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, Shifnal, Shropshire. TF11 8UP. All welcome, regardless of vehicle.

The silver one looks box-fresh and has to be a serious contender for best LS400 posted?
'tis very nice, can't be many LS400s hoving around the Isle of Arran. I also spy a Jazz for when he feels like letting his sensible side out to play.

Cam belt last done 2006, so I reckon that would be due again?

May I join you please?

No "barge" as such. Just a few old Mercedeseseses and a keen follower of the thread

If dry, W124 E36 (no "lunch" for me later as my wife won't drive it), if wet 24 year old G Wagen (lots of "lunch" as wife will drive it home from pub)

That's a nice little collection; either will be very welcome.

I'll be there in a 1973 SLC, and idiotgap is taking a 107 SL so old Mercs will be well represented.

Ah I so wish I could get to this one and see the E36!

"and fitted 4 brand new Bridgestone potenza tyres all in all costing £940. The bad points are the front bumper has a small patch of worn paint and the front passenger door has a scratch on it"

Surely there are other bad points, but it does look amazing for that money.

Edit:

Ah, that is until I saw the silver one.

Would you go silver, or Burgundy with a grand in the hand?

I think silver because all other things being equal in say 15k miles time, for resale, 155k on the Burgundy one makes it feel way older and dare I say sheddy than the silver one, but then, you'll still always be able to sell it for £1k ( I know sheddy is too harsh but).

I could flip a coin for it tbh.

Indeed, I hope it's dry! Pity you're not there chap

I think I'll set off a bit earlier than I would otherwise to give me some margin for traffic shenanigans. Aim for 0930 but arrive at 1000, something like that

I'd go for the burgundy one simply because I hate silver cars, but whichever choice I think we're both winners!

Yep!

Unfortunately, despite my previous promises, I won't make this one... The W211 is in urgent need of some front axle refurbishment, so since the weather's nice I'll have to do that instead.

I'll probably bring the racing hippo.

You'll know it when you see it.

I think I have permission to attend the Barge meeting this Sunday, sans wife and children. The only question is, which car? I've taken the 124 and the 201 previously, so that leaves the 210 and the 129. Both are in pretty spifferoo condition although neither is on winter rubber.

SL, no question, for me.

Especially if your route is a very-early-morning blat across the moors to the M6 before heading south.
