I don't ever recall having seen cloth 'Sports' seats in an E39 before.....?
Alcantara, no?
Looks like cloth to me, spec decoded says Sport seats! Unusual..
Love cloth sports seats in an E39. I remember one for sale in a previous thread iteration with green ones which were glorious.

I somewhat admire the effort that has gone into that. And yet, I can't help feel it wants for originality:

Bizarre BMW conversion:

Ugly-beautiful Alfa Romeo SV convertible:
When I first read that I hadn't scrolled down quite far enough.

Apart from noting they'd appeared to use/copy a particular type of background that I used to favour, I was also thinking: "Gosh! r129SL is being a bit stingy with his praise" because I was looking really hard at that yellow SZ and thinking: "Blimey! I'm struggling really hard to see the tell-tale signs that that isn't a real SZ. And, I wonder which BMW they used as its basis?"

I then scrolled down a little further and......."OMFG! WTF! eekhurl"

That (as far as I can remember) is the worst 'Badly Modified BMW....and there is such a genre active in Facebook....that I have ever seen!

I wouldn't give 15,000 Pesos for that let alone £Sterling. *

  • I suppose they'll probably be the same thing once Brexit has fully worked its magic!

Heard a song on the radio yesterday with the lyrics "I'm a 90's baby, in my 80's Mercedes". Made me think of this thread, maybe barging just got cool with da kidz biggrin
You can "enjoy" the video here

https://youtu.be/m9md97nN_SQ

She seems unconcerned by the likelihood of bulkhead rust and the lyrics could make more mention of the importance of regular preventative maintenance.

Good grief, that 645i looks a steal, if it's as good as the description suggests!

Just posting to show some solidarity. I went through exactly the same process. I am quite a fan of the SZ and it looked OK to me (the first one).

Also kept a tentative eye on the 6 series market for a while now. I love a V8 as much as the next man, but somehow this appeals more.

N52 straight 6/manual 'box combo are shared with the E90 330i that everyone creams over when they become available, and I much prefer the smaller wheel/taller sidewall/raised stance over the V8's.

It's probably fked judging by the tone of the ad, but I think that looks a million dollars for £4.5k.

I go through the exact same 15 second process every time someone posts a 6-Series.

Wow, looks ace. Love the wheels.

Interesting option, bit of a trade off in performance BUT, if not anything like as bothersome a model to consider. again, the manual option suits this engine, this engine doesn't have any major issues?

Fill me in on idrive speckledjim!!!

You know how sometimes you have an idea in the bath (whilst twiddling with your knob perhaps), and it seems like a good'un, so you incorporate that idea into literally billions of pounds worth of cars and spoil them all? Completely ruin hundreds of thousands of cars? One idea : Gigantic disaster?

You know, those times when thousands of engineers and stylists and product development marketers all did a good-to-very-good job of their little part of the whole, but your ballooning brain-fart turns the whole thing into a colossal wobbly clammy creaking aching bottom?

Well, iDrive is a bit like that.

I’ve never had the pleasure. What does it actually do not very well? Presume a one-button-does-all affair?

I’d live with it- OBC data is crushingly dull, and once 22 degrees C and Different Kind of Blue is set, I tend to leave well alone.

S8 has been here before (albeit at 4,888 at first). Was savaged for the optimistic price given the miles. I don't think the £400 price reduction helps.

I'm sure the A6 is hugely competent. But my goodness, it looks dull as dishwater.

Not to mention silver.

The D2 S8 was the last of the not st looking Audis, from the time before every wazzock in a poverty spec BMW decided to tailgate in an Audi instead.

Head says A ( it's half the miles f f s) , and I'd want to get rid of the S line side door decals, but my heart says B.

B has 10 times the road presence and I think you'd get more if a kick from getting in it.

The early iDrive was an attempt to replace just about every button in the E38/E39 with various move-and-click combinations on a big mushroom shaped thing. Lots of nested sub menus etc. Plus if you are right handed in a RHD car, you have to do it with the wrong hand.
I have always steered clear of it - apart from anything else, it's a serious single point of failure if anything goes wrong with it - but some comment on the ergonomics is in this thread:

As a serial BMW owner, I’m here to defend the honour of i-drive! smile

Personally, it’s just familiarity (or lack of) in my opinion. If you’re going to get rid of a number pad, and eleventy billion buttons (like a mid 00’s e-class or a 996 911), then some sort of grouped viewscreen with controller is not a bad idea. Remember too that we’ve only just ‘celebrated’ the 10 year anniversary of the i-phone, yet i-drive version 1 was in the launch E65’s, so 2002.

Admittedly, they didn’t get everything right first time, like the additional pop-out number pad for the phone, but the gen-2 versions, as can be seen in the 5/6 series of 2004 on, and the 3 series from 2005 is still useable now. Sure, the graphics aren’t high-resolution, but that’s not the end of the world (the v3 CIC from 2009 is better for that). I actually find the current controller worse than any of the previous ones, purely as someone decided to make it touch sensitive on the top, so you can ‘draw’ the letter you’re wanting - I don’t like this as it’s forcing me to relearn how I’ve held my knob over the years... wink

But - i-drive lets me independently control the airspeed through the vents at floor/hand/screen level, on top of all the adjustability of the regular controls. It lets me view control messages on car status. It can be used as a dial to scroll the radio setting (or tv channel if you have that - I do in the M6). You can use it to call up a different rear sound source, or even a DVD in the 7 series, as you’re being chauffeured along, you can even change the setting for the speed limiter warning chime, should you so wish. In short, a big screen (relatively speaking) lets you display so much more information to the driver that just wasn’t available on a 2” panel between the speedo and the rev. Counter. If you like minimalist interiors, then it (or it’s equivalent from MB/Audi) helps in achieving that too, in my opinion.

Also, The initial designs (z4 excepted!) - upto f-series models kept the screen well-integrated into the dash, usually as a 2nd hump in the centre, this wasn’t as offensive as the current trend of ‘slapping an ipad on the top of the dash’ that seems to be the industry standard now. I’d call that a retrograde step (like missing H-PAS, it’s not a benefit to me).

And as far as left/right goes?! Are you really that discombobulated? laugh Maybe it’s a personal thing, but as I’m back and forward to Europe all the time, things like which side of the car to sit in, or which hand to change gear with really don’t bother me at all. I’m sufficiently capable of using either hand to i-drive, as needed - as before, I think it’s more a familiarity thing?

Finally, anyone who wants to see it in action is welcome to have a look at the barge meet!

Another defender of I-drive - as above, it just takes some getting used to you, then its quite simple as you only really use 3 or 4 major functions - it still has rotary knobs for heat/AC etc

Lets face it - these are 13 years old now and still hold their own on the road - better than a 13 year old mondeo or similar

personally i prefer the bigger wheels - sets the stance just about right - only down side is the cost of the tyres. Being RFT i seem to remember the rears were about £315 each and the fronts around £260!!!

I'd take the S8. I mean, it's aRonin classic, no?

Were the A6 not a S-Line car, i.e. were it a bit more Werthers, I'd take the A6: I suspect they make very discreet, very fast every day cars. The lower mileage would weigh in its favour, too. But not that one.
