That’s the one i’d be keen to see - has dropped £500 in the past few days

Indeed, a well written ad too, If I was in the market I would buy it blind in order to keep within official thread rules and guidelines even though I am only 45mins away from it.

Any E34 5 series Beards in here? Aside from rust (although I'm not sure which key areas to pay attention to), what issues should I be looking for?

Prime candidate for shipping to Eastern Europe: many German barges with serious faults are bought in bulk by people who put them on transporters, take advantage of the vastly cheaper labour rates to get them fixed up, then sell them on for a much higher price than they'd fetch in the UK.
OK, cheap labour rates, but where do they sell them ? Certainly not in any LHD country, right?

I'd say they sell them in parts, know for sure that a lot of older ( 1990-2000) Patrols, Pajeros, Discovery and similar are brought by truckloads to Bosnia-Herzegovina and sold in pieces - engines, gearboxes, reducers and all other swap-able stuff from RHD to LHD.

I like that too, although the wheels are a bit too dealer for me, albeit OEM.

It is a good ad, and I love his spirit in claiming 'only' 170,000 miles! Gold rear badges and a corolla-esque dashboard for the win. Good spot.

Sills, arch lips, around the petrol filler and tailgates on the Tourings rust.

Front end shimmy is control arm bushes.

All wiper linkages get sloppy and hit the back of the bonnet.

Check M30 engined camshaft banjo bolts.

Occasional prop-shaft guibos go.

They look rubbish with after market angel eyes.

What engine/bodyshape/trim are you looking at?

It's possible that buyers are walking away after seeing it, but I suspect it's being shill-bid. The seller should be taking any sort of sale at that money, so the fact that it comes back on makes me think it's being bid-up and then re-listed when a genuine punter doesn't match it. Whatever the cause, it's off-putting.
Agreed.

In other e500 news:
I now have a replacement alloy and new tyre for the one I cracked. Hooray!

£279 for wheel and £155 for new Pirelli. Boo!

Final self inflicted insult is that when I scrapped the old wheel I forgot to keep the centre cap. Doh......
Good on the oft-maligned quick fit who found an old one knocking around and donated it gratis, albeit different to the other 3.

So which do we prefer gents as I will have to make all 4 match? old
new
blue edged one for me.

I have, did I also mention I'm a complete coward when it comes to significant purchases. This is right at the top end of my budget and would leave me stretched and with no fighting fund. As comprehensive as maintenance is - I worry that if anything happened within the first few months I'd be stuffed (whatever I get has to be a daily).
I apologise gents, I'm not exactly making this easy, and appreciate the help and advice that has been handed out thus far. I will really need to grow a set after next weekend (on a course), do some proper shopping and follow through to join the barge club - or be useless and just get a cheap nasty little box for another year.

Reading threads on LOC suggests 250k+ miles is nothing for these with regular servicing, even the gearbox is bullet proof.
Agree on the wheels, although a lighter anthracite may work well with the Green.

I’m quite tempted myself with the BC coilovers, especially if you can lower say 30-35mm and retain factory levels of compliance. Have emailed BC for their thoughts.

Unanimous it would appear. That was my initial thought too. Many thanks

.
There are plenty of RHD cars in LHD countries. If they're cheaper than an equivalent LHD car, people will often put up with it

blue edged for me too - sets it apart from the standard logo you see on everything from the cars to the vans and trucks.

My dad taught me to bay and parallel park in one of these. Great memories.

Chrome star: that’s what it left the factory with.

I was going to say that, but fearing I was out of step with the majority, thought I'd best keep my views to myself. The blue-ringed one does look good though.
