On the X350 XJR I had a set of Conti Sport Contact that were utter rubbish. Noisy, tram-lining hateful things. Oh and they lasted 8000 miles.

Replaced with Dunlop SportMaxx. wow, no comparison. No tram-lining, much quieter, more confidence in wet weather including standing water.

What's on yours?
Pirelli p6000s all round with plenty of tread. I think they are the OEM choice as the last owner only used the local Jaguar dealer.
Apparently a pretty firm tyre and old design so I'd expect them to be a bit noisy really.
I did another 150 miles in it today and the road noise is surprisingly loud on poor surfaces.

There's also a bit of that new BMW feeling of being on too big wheels over broken surfaces.

Would new dampers help as well as the tyres?

I'm being fussy but it's so well behaved elsewhere it's annoying me.

Has some spoon put massive wheels on it?

Just the standard 17's for the 4.0 car, I think.

Perhaps it's just me expecting too much! We need a 1-5 meet so you can help judge...

I do drive a piece of road at low speed in the XJ and think that the SL would have rode better. Surely shouldn't be the case?

As I say it's a bit of personal opinion and all that, but the new BMW feel is there a bit. I think.

Had to share this from the ‘do you have a car you’d never sell’ thread

Then probably the Alpina B12 5.7 limousine as it's just such an accomplished family car....

Very sharp. It must be unique now?

I think E24man is a threadist brethren.

With the reference to price v parts, it’s not actually clear it’s running though is it? Or is it just me?
Correct, not obviously stated but nice long MOT still. Us the company mentioned well known ?
Which company - Vath? or the the one the vendor works for that swapped the running gear from the original blue Vath car to this silver one?

I'm a novice here, but does this look too good to be true?

89k miles, £3650
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

The ad says the MOT expires at the end of this month, but the .gov site says it's MOTd until 28th Dec 2018 and the last few years look remarkably clean.

Yes it does. If not lacking a preceeding "1", the sellers phone will be ringing as much as my best mate's did 2 years ago when +someone+ advertised his low miles Sapphire Cosworth for £5K.

Gov site also shows some sort of mileage correction wink in 2007.

It’s then done 1k/yr the last 10 years, on average. I think I’d want to have a lot more detail first, which the ad is conspiciously lacking in.

Car is on a K plate, but AT says 1993 L.

Spidey senses are sufficiently tingling to tell me - avoid.

Is the V6 X Type worthy of this thread? If so I’ve started a topic in the car buying section of PH and would appreciate some advice! Cheers.

Zero feedback on Ebay.

Afternoon chaps. I have a ~6000 mile road trip planned for the end of March and require a car. Only issue is I have about a week or so to find something suitable so I can get the paperwork (carnet de passage) sorted out in time.

Budget is £3000 or thereabouts and the shortlist currently consists of one car, the Lexus LS430. Is there anything else I should consider in that price bracket?

6k miles? Sounds awesome! How about a 3.0 or 4.2 Jag XJ x350?

Your LS430 is a great shout.

An Eclass would munch the miles and be within easy spannering assistance wherever you go, but you probably won’t need a spanner with the Lexus.

Is it a sporty drive through the Pyrennes and Alps ? If so maybe an exec barge might not be suitable ? Maybe a nice classic convertible would be better ?
