Oh yes.

It looks a little rough round the edges, but that's part of the charm.
Indeed. Haggle and it's a Turbo R for thread budget. What a thing!
Imagine how much the government has made from that car. 200k miles at, say, 12-15mpg.

That's some bill.

Totally agree that they are a bit brash, and louche. I'd certainly do things like try and remove tinted windows, refurb the alloys in a form that isn't the stupidity of "diamond-cut" etc to try and tone it down a bit.

But at the end of the day a V12 should be noted by the hoi polloi biggrin

I'm being pedantic, but in Classical Greek 'hoi' is the plural definitive article, so 'the hoi polloi' is 'the the masses'. I shall retreat back under my stone now...
Epic work, Fatlad1973.

More evidence as to why this is likely the greatest thread on PH, if not the entire web!

Only here could you intersperse crusty barge analysis and a Classical Greek correction in one page and nobody bats an eyelid. Moreover, I for one can add yet more inane facts to my canon thanks to the contributions of others on the thread.

Perhaps a valid case for a vehicle with "£350m for the NHS" written on the side of it rofl

Fellow LS400 owners, what sort of range can I expect from my MK3 on a long run? I know a V8 barge with a 4 speed box means it won’t be great but trying to get a indicative figure before the roadtrip

With the demise of our trusty Disco 3 after 250,000 miles we are looking for a replacement barge for mrs-lad.

The potential options so far are V6 petrol X-Type estate 4x4 or Volvo XC70.

Apparently a brace of black Labradors will arrive at some point beyond my control and the love of more space than required necessitate estate.

For arguments sake lets stick to just above thread budget as a max. She's happy to pinch my L322 when required but doesn't want one of her own.

Help.

Per tank or before it detonates and necessitates a dubious taxi home?

Per tank. Doubt a taxi home will be an option!

My Mrs doesn't give a toss about cars. Not a toss. I like them a lot. A LOT

She commutes in a very nice LWB S-Class that she and the kids treat like a dustbin for medical and industrial waste and a canvas for avantgarde food-based graffiti, and which she only stops reversing when she can hear the scratchy complaint of a hedgerow under compression. She knocked the star off the bonnet with a yard-broom whilst clearing snow. Despite sitting staring at it for many thousands of miles, she should not be expected to know it was there. Because snow. That's before we mention the choice of a yard broom for the job at hand.

I commute in a Nissan Leaf.

How on earth did we get to this point?

That one really tickled me....probably as much for the similarities to how things operate here.

In fairness though, it was the $hitbags* who snapped my star off, not the wife.

  • also known as the kids, who apparently I love a lot, so shouldn't be mad at, for breaking bits of my car....

I would be looking at something larger than those to accommodate 2 labs.

That’s why I chose one for my roadtrip. 6500 or so miles in 14 days means reliability is paramount. I’m enjoying having a V8 again. The sheer gulf in difference between my LS400 and my Renault Zoe amuses me.

From what I’ve read elsewhere I should expect 420-520 miles per tank depending on driving style.

Leeds to Lahore and a little bit further. That’s the plan anyway, let’s see how far we get! I’ll be starting a thread up this weekend. Departing in a weeks time

If you have a MK3, I'd work on a 400 miles range, based on a realistic average of 25mpg on motorway/dual carriageway and some slosh left in the tank to avoid picking up crap/fill-up location anxiety. Mk4's are a bit better on fuel thanks to VVTi and a 5 gear speedbox. All based on back-of-envelope maths rather than experience, my LS is lucky if it goes to the pub once a week.

Sounds a really interesting trip, keep us posted!

Now that's what you call an advert - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2... Anyone fancy an import 530i that used to be a Cypriot embassy car somewhere in the Mediterranean?

It even has a link to his mechanics Wikipedia page...

I am half tempted. But by time you've got it sorted your gonna be nearly 3 to 3.5 grand in on a 150k mile car

I like it. It only got to 200,000 miles by driving there. So that means it was, for a long time, working. And that means it might still be working.

And it looks good on an internet advert, which means Greater Fool Theory will catch you if you fall.

JFDI.

It's for mounting your little AA/Bentley club shield and/or family crest to.

Eventually, if you go to enough classic rallies...

If it's a 2 human/2 dog car, you'd be OK with either of those I'd have thought, but for family use plus dogs they'd be more limited.

bob-lad - we've had the estate discussion here several times. The obvious 'thread answer' is a Merc. I know you love your Jaguars but I just couldn't live with an X-type, but I do like Volvos and Saabs. If you need XC-capability, you're left with the Volvo or an Audi quattro aren't you? Either would be good for that type of job.
