This may seem a strange question, but what is the most reliable V8 barge to live within the walls of this thread? Must be 4/5 door, and at least 5 decent sized seats, 6 or 7 would be a dream - a Merc wagon with a pair of pop up seats in the boot?
If you don't really need the 7 seats, these aren't at all bad.One for economy

Or a bit more oompf.

Or indeed, even more oompf.

And a bit of oof too. Wonder what the seller means by "steam cleaning" the leather? can't imagine if it's been done with one of those wands you see advertised relentlessly by that Brit on naff TV channels it's any good for the cow, long term at least. Still, good price, esp with the rear screens.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Slightly out of thread budget but thought it was worth posting due to the rarity and mileage.
Somewhat put off by the fact the dealer thinks its 1 private owner from new but the V5 suggests otherwise and the cheap tyres.

I think I like the idea of of a V10 diesel, due to its novelty value but when I look at the performance and economy figures of it in this

I'm left thinking, it's not that quick nor that economical. Am I missing something?
As a side note, of all the 4x4's about at the moment, I have always had a soft spot for the Touareg. Has anyone ever owned one on here?
Company where I used to work owned 2004 V10 Tuareg, bought used with 130K miles, looked good, but had a lot of problems with diffs, transmission, turbos, fuel injectors, lights, suspension parts, air suspension etc. Eats set of brake disks and pads every 20K miles. Repairs for next 60K miles were about 12K , sold for spares in the end...https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Edited to add fuel economy : 16 mpg city only, 26 mpg motorway nsl measured brim to brim.

Can certainly see the attraction, but I'm a bit surprised as to how cheap and uninviting the interior looks.Slightly out of thread budget but thought it was worth posting due to the rarity and mileage.

I know it is out of budget by the video of this looks excellent.
Service history in a JDM car though? I had a MX5 with the Japanese History that was illegible but not to bothered on a £1500 1.6 as opposed to a £7,995 4.0 s/c Jag.
I love this car!
I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Fellow LS400 owners, what sort of range can I expect from my MK3 on a long run? I know a V8 barge with a 4 speed box means it won’t be great but trying to get a indicative figure before the roadtrip
Per tank or before it detonates and necessitates a dubious taxi home?I think the tank is about 80L. The last time I accurately recorded the fuel consumption, it was 31mpg on a 250 mile run, with a bunch of heavy stuff in the boot. It was from the Midlands to South Devon, so plenty of hills on the A38.
With a few mates, I reckon 25mpg is a safe bet. And 70 safely-useable litres in the tank.
Quick maffs suggests: 70L / 4.54G = 15.41 (safely useable) gallons in the tank. 25mpg * 15.41G = 385 mile range.
If you drive around towns, with a heavy foot, and a car full of passengers and gear... Expect low teens / single digit MPG....
The engine and 4 speed box are simple and tough though. I wouldn't be worried about it anyway!

.....some slosh left in the tank to avoid picking up crap/fill-up location anxiety......
I don't mean to nit-pick, but this is a myth that won't die. Cars don't pick up any more crap when the fuel is low, than when you've got a tank full (there are a few exceptions, but they are few, and far between). The fuel pump pickups are mounted at the lowest part of the fuel tank, and usually have a gauze type sock on them to strain out the chunks before the pump.
The fuel pickup position doesn't change, no matter how full your tank is.
What I will say is; running your tank dry all the time isn't super clever. Your fuel pump/s require petrol as a sealant, lubricant and coolant. If you run them dry, you can damage them and reduce their pumping efficiency, or even kill them altogether.
Not quite a barge, however as this thread has the best knowledge on the forum.
My relative is looking for a new (old) car. The current focus saloon is on its way out and trying to MOT it would be a waste of £50 so something needs to be found in the next couple of months.
Looking around I found an 04 RAV4, 2L petrol just under £2k, it was only a couple of miles away but unfortunately sold before we could get there to look at it.
Recently retired, he will spend a fair bit of his time doing local driving 1-20 miles with 200mile motorway trips a number of times a year up to Scotland.
With a set of cross climate type tyres and 4 wheel drive, i'd imagine that would be able to cope with all but the worst snow. Plenty of room for his dog in the back and enough space if he is giving someone else a lift.
It appears it is fairly cheap for general consumables, I checked ECP and with the latest discount code air, oil and cabin filters, oil, 4 spark plugs, wipers all round, thermostat and disks and pads for all 4 corners was under £200. With the right discount, probably could do a £20 oil change.
Does anyone have any experience of running these? Are they reliable in your experience?
Only interested in the petrol version, the diesel sounds like it has alot of problems and isn't suitable for the regular short journeys the car will make and the petrol uses a timing chain.
Looking at 5 door XT? models as the vehicle needs to be Euro 4 for soon to be introduced LEZ purposes.
